Important Note: This is the start of my 16 part Review series called "Having Fun on Film&Television 2008" where I look at things that were popular in the 2008 year. There is a pretty important election going on this year, and people may not have time to to seed through what's great on the big and small screen. I will be happy to help.
EVEN MORE IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS IS A 16 PART SERIES. I WILL NOT DO ANY MORE THAN 16 SO DO NOT REQUEST ME TO DO MORE. IF YOU DO I WILL REPORT YOU TO THE ADMINISTRATORS OF ASPECIALTHING.COM AND ASTSTORE.COM AND SEE TO IT THAT YOU CAN NOT ACCESS BOTH PERMANENTLY.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is a comedy series brought to you by the FX Network (The Shield, Denis Leary Fire Time, Girls Gone Wild Infomercials). It has three guys, a girl, and an Irish based bar (or pub as my fellow UKers call it). The show doesn't blatantly say this but these four people lost their souls or their souls are locked away in some crystallize form in the farthest reaches of their unconscious. I assume this because every character on this show is a real jerk.
Irony Sighting: The show is called It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia but the Television Intro is shot at Night Time.
It figures that one of the producer's name is Fred Savage because the humor on this show is brutally savage. Nothing is off limits for Charlie and his gang of mutants. They'll make gags about rape, sex, molestation, and other stuff. If you think those things has capacity for humor you might like this show, but bear with me. The next fact is going to blow your mind.
Danny Devito is on the show. I liked Danny Devito on Home Alone and Twins. Then, sometime in the late 90's Danny Devito looked into Rhea Pearlman's eyes and said "I wanna BE EV-IL". He made one of the ugliest and rudest movies I have ever seen called Drowning Mona, which pretty much said that not only is murder fun, but it's cool too. On Sunny, Danny Devito plays a monster of a human being while the kids on the show are just dopefully bad human beings. In think in one episode, Danny Devito murders a child for money and said "thems the breaks!". THEMS THE BREAKS? HOW COULD YOU! YOU ARE TRASH! FICTIONAL OR NOT!
Granted, I have become a soft touch these days. I tend to cover my ears when Alec Baldwin raises his voice on 30 Rock (I don't want to hear Tina Fey be called a pig). I don't like people being mean without good reason. The perfect show would be one where a re-formed jerk is paid to take on evil jerks using jerk techniques[1]. Then you can have the jerk humor without the guilt. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia makes me want to do a 12 step program for just watching it. Sorry guys.
RATING: NOT FUN
