Great pilot. Super funny, fast paced, awesome voice work.. can't wait for more.
I didn't realize shows on FX could be so dirty.
And we have to wait 'till January first.
and those six episodes aren't going to start airing until January.
Was that Katey Sagel? Didn't see her in the credits, but sure sounded like her.
The answer is no, but who did you mean? The secretary was Judy Greer, the ex-girlfriend was Aisha Tyler.
Haha, I read Tron's post as "only gonna' be six episodes and then we have to wait until [the] next year."
Ordinarily I find it weird when people say they are turned on by cartoon characters, but with Aisha Tyler's character, I came pretty darn close.
I thought the animation on this show totally sucked. Kind of makes it hard to pay attention to the whole time.
If you're watching an Adam Reed cartoon for the animation, and not the mindblowingly sharp dialogue, you're doing it wrong.
i don't really like having a signature.
That's true CMJ but do you think the average joe watching FX is willing to tune in and ignore the look of the show? Adam Reed's stuff couldn't even survive on adult swim during a block where people are used to watching strange/ugly shows. I can't really see this thing getting renewed, I'm sad to say. I suppose as long as it's right after Always Sunny it has a chance but I imagine Louie will prove to be a better fit.
I don't think the look was the problem with either of those shows. Sealab ran four seasons and it ended more because of Harry Goz's death than anything else (my opinion).
Frisky Dingo was, I think, more because 7030 itself collapsed. And I like the style.
I'm in the camp of really enjoying the way this and Frisky Dingo are animated. The only downside to it is that facial expressions are always very lacking, but I think that tends to add to the charm.
The style just lends a somewhat pseudo-realistic spin to everything, where it blends reality and cartoon into something wonderfully twisted.
It's certainly a distinct visual style, which is fine, but I also think it's a waste of vocal talent, especially the vocal talent for this show (Sealab and Dingo were fine, but particularly with Sealab there wasn't much subtlety to each characters' dialogue; it was pretty much the same emotion week after week, plus the pre-existing animation was part of the show's structure). If the facial expressions are going to be so bland, what's the point of animating it? You could've made this Archer pilot as a radio show and it would've been almost just as good.
Or a podcast. I find the style really ugly and that was part of the reason I couldn't watch that Daughter of the Demon show that was beloved by many here. I guess I can accept it on a show like Space Ghost because the heart in the program was the reused and shotty animation (as was sealab). Also, I think it was funnier.
I know it seems like nitpicking to some of you, but I also have complained about the lighting on "Boy Meets World" in the past.
