    "Arrested Development" movie thread

“Arrested Development” fans, rejoice. Your fave TV show is becoming a movie.

That’s according to star Jeffrey Tambor anyway, who yesterday told Steve Weintraub of collider.com that the much-rumored film is a go. Tambor said he talked to “AD” creator Mitch Hurwitz last week, who said it was on.

Tambor didn’t know any specifics about the project, but said that fans can be sure it’s happening.

“When the writer calls you, and the director, and the executive producer calls you, it’s a pretty good sign,” Tambor said in the interview, which you can watch for yourself at Collider.

Tambor said he’s looking forward to revisiting “Arrested Development” and his character, George Bluth Sr.

“We want to close that,” he said. “We want to bring that all to fruition.”

The show starred Tambor, Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Tony Hale, David Cross and Jessica Walter, among others.

Didn't he say this a few months ago?

I kinda don't want this to happen anymore.

I hope Michael Cera agrees to be in it.

Keith Olbermann said that DC confirmed it also.

More positive-leaning clarification from Ron Howard:

"I really hope we do it," Howard enthused. "The reason there's been so much back and forth is... well, for two reasons, is the business understanding coming from the studio side was not clear, so even though we were wanting to do it and said, 'Yeah, maybe we could' but things weren't defined. I think that's really come into focus in the last week or so. Mitch's full-on commitment to not only write it but direct it is something he's been wrestling with, he's been launching a TV show at the same time, so he couldn't let it really be at the forefront of his mind creatively. It is now. He seems very committed. We still don't have a script. Yeah, he's got some great ideas, and the cast seemed very excited about it and I certainly am. I'm very, very hopeful—more hopeful now than ever—that it's really going to happen."

As awesome as this could be, I don't have the best feeling about it.

I feel the same way about this as I felt about the election: cautiously optimistic. I hope this thing turns out the same way as that did.

My theory is that everyone involved just keep saying this movie will happen to fuck with our minds, but it will never come to fruition.

So are we all in agreement that the plot will revolve around the mortgage crisis? Has this been announced?

    This might actually happen.

The "Arrested Development" feature has moved closer to reality, with Mitch Hurwitz and Ron Howard reportedly closing deals for the long-gestating project from Imagine and Fox Searchlight.

The possible migration of the critically acclaimed but short-lived Fox series to the big screen has been a hot topic among fans for the past year. Speculation has been fueled by cast members of the show, including Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Jeffrey Tambor, who have been frequently quoted in interviews that a feature adaptation is in the works.

Hurwitz, who created and exec produced the Emmy-winning series, is on board to write the film as well as direct with help from Howard. The series, from Imagine TV and 20th TV, was a pet project of Howard, who had a lot to do with its distinct visual style. In the final episode, Howard, playing himself, heard the Bluth TV family's pitch of their story and liked it for a movie.

Some interesting news from Kristin at E! Online:

Sources tell me exclusively that the major motion picture is budgeted at $15 million. (Translation: It will be awesome.)
"Yes, it's a go," an Arrested castmember who asked not to be named tells me. "We're all very excited. And it will happen with or without the holdout."
Wait a minute...The holdout? Yes, I'm also told exclusively by multiple sources that one of the show's original castmembers has not signed on to the movie...
"Yeah, [he or she] might not do it," an actor says of this costar. "However, I do know that we will do the project with or without [him or her]."
    Guesses?
The good news is that aside from this actor (who, sorry, cannot be named), I'm told that all of the other main castmembers have committed to be a part of the big-screen project. And, yes, the show will go on.
