    I agree that it is weird. You'd think that the structure could relax and tighten as they see fit.

    However, I think it makes some sense. Whatever the show or project is that they do next, its the follow-up to Mr. Show. Both of them have been a part of some great things and some mediocre things since Mr. Show ended, but this series (or rather the next one) has the incredibly tough job of living up to Mr. Show to the comedy nerd, while aiming for a larger audience than Mr. Show initially received. It's a very different spot than most tv show creators find themselves, where getting something to air is such a hurdle that they can't entertain the idea that it might not be the right project.

    It sounds like they just don't want to be saddled with that concept and that setting and those characters week after week -- even if they can deviate from it, they're still working within the sitcom milieu, so they'd be obligated to maintain some of those elements. Otherwise what's the point of establishing them?

    It is a bit ridiculous to me. I was at the taping and what I saw was something fresh, kind of turning sitcoms on their ass while still being a sitcom. Something totally new. And it's a bit silly to me that they would just drop that. I mean when you do a pilot generally you kind of have the first season outlined, right? I can't imagine they only approached the pilot and didn't think about the rest of the series, and in that case well it's just kind of annoying to me, I guess, to have the opportunity and not run with it.

    But it's Bob and David and HBO and those three things will eventually result in awesome-ness.

    Discovered this when I was browsing Youtube yesterday (sorry, I'm not sure why there are two videos there).

    that was really great. i think it wouldve been better with a fake studio audience rather than a real one (by that i mean that the laugh track was annoying, even if it was real), but it was still really great anyway.

    Re: Bob and David Stuff Goes Here!

    Bob posted the clip over at bobanddavid.com and has this to say about it:

    Here is a short bit of the pilot David and I shot for HBO a few months ago. HBO was AWESOME to let us shoot it, and we are the ones who nixed going forward with the show...however-
    -We all had such a good time that David and I are working on a new show that will let us kick ass. I put this video up because I think it kicks ass. I know you are missing story here...basically Zach Galifianakis plays an annoying old friend of David's who chances upon his house just when the house is being used to tape an episode of "Good Morning, Predator". Zach's character, LAME, has a shitty song he loves to sing to everyone and he does so here, completely oblivious to the fact that he is being labeled a predator. He's so happy to be on TV, that that is all that matters. It's a funny song, and cool video. Enjoy. (OH, and once again, HBO didn't nix the show, WE did...so don't get mad at them. They are on our side and we're hoping to work with them in the future - hopefully the near future).

    You know how Zach always says that he isn't proud of any of the movies or tv shows he's been in? Did he shoot that clip just so he could continue saying it?

    The funny thing to me about that clip is that Zach gets a huge applause break because of the type of audience it was, but I can't help but imagine the average HBO viewer would be incredibly confused about that.

    Spending a day in watching terrible TV, I came across Jack Frost (very very so bad it's good) and there were multiple Mr. Show references - they used the "Ding Dong King Kong Sing Song burger" ad as a real ad and I saw the show a few more times. Then Jay Johnston was a weather reporter.

    I guess Troy Miller directed it, but still...random.

    Holy crap, I met a guy yesterday who had to be the inspiration for Bob's "Mr. Sniffles" - I mean "Droopy" - character.

    While I love the character, this guy was so obtuse it was really scary. The really weird part was that he had an above-average looking wife who seemed normal enough, and two kids (who clearly took after their dad).

    My momma had twin babies on one sweet summer day;
    She beat one in the head, and I'm the one that got away.
