I got a speeding ticket tonight, so no bridgetown for me, seeing as the citation is gonna cost me the price of the plane ticket.
boo-urns. I was looking forward to seeing meen and timbuktu wrestle.

"wrestle"
Um.
So yeah, hey guys! Unless H---- M---- changes her mind, I am roommate-less (and got the group rate, woo! It still exists!). Friends? Lovers?
Hey, this thing is pretty close to me.

During that Saturday-day (pre-festival), I will have my husbands car to cart people around PDX (Hawthorne, hotel, comic book stores. etc.)
Andy - Will Kim be e-mailing us again to set up a meeting for us Portlanders that want to help with posting signs and stuff?
I'm in for street-teaming as well if you need some help.
Speaking of comic book stores, the Stumptown Comics Fest is going on Saturday and Sunday not too far from Hawthorne. It's a primarily independent and small-press convention, though local heroes Dark Horse Comics should have a large presence. It's $6 each day if you're looking for a way to spend a morning/early afternoon in the mostly-unremarkable (but free-rail accessible) Lloyd District.
Even better, it's the only one I've ever seen that's not 24 hours. They'll boot you right out at 1 am.
Speaking of street teaming and other volunteering, anyone interested can fill out this handy little Google form.
Also, we're launching the new site, announcing most of the lineup and starting festival pass pre-sales on Monday. I know that we're competing with Conan shows in SF and LA the weekend of the fest, but rest assured if you're a fan of all things CoCo you'll be able to get your fix right here in Portland. I'll leave it at that.
andy, i love you so hard and i can't wait to be back in portland! PORTLAND, WHERE WE ARE ALL POTATO CHAMPIONS

So, I'm finally buying my hotel room, any hot tips on which budget motels have a history of stabbings?
(so I can avoid them. Just want to be clear.)
Portland's pretty safe all around, though the motels on or above (east of) SE 82nd tend to be in shadier areas. If you're looking for cheap, reasonably nice accommodation near Hawthorne, check out SE Powell blvd (between about 80th and 26th, mostly Days Inn or Motel 6 types) or inner NE Portland near I-84, between about 7th and 42nd. There are lots of business events in the Llyod district in particular, so you'll find your usual Marriott-Red Lion-Doubletree stuff around there.
If you're not going to have a car, being near 39th avenue (NE or SE) will put you on the 75 busline, which drops off in front of the Hawthorne Theatre, while being near SE 50th (or Foster if you end up that far south) will put you on the 14, which goes past all the venues.
I just Pricelined the Coutyard by Marriot Portland City Center. It was sold when I saw it was within walking distance of Voodoo Donuts.
Don't forget Ground Kontrol Video Arcade.

Oh, dear lord that's right next to the Big Pink. They have the best happy hour in Portland on the 30th floor of that building at the City Grill. Ridiculous, full-sized plates of gourmet grub off a huge menu all priced at $5 or less with unobstructed views of at least two mountains and a piano bar. It's one of the first places I take out of town visitors. Good choice! Just don't go outside of happy hour (4:30-6:30 & 10-12 daily, all day Sunday) if you want to get out on the cheap.
I am officially a billion times more excited for this years trip. I tried to get to groundkontrol last year but instead got lost and wound up at a weird arcade/discount movie theater with a giant clown outside. And I'm already hungry for City Grill.
I am going to Bridgetown (with Mr Chapina in tow), the excitement can start now.
