    Comedians who are Political Pundits

It's sort of my field of expertise, but I wanted to know how many Political Comedy fans there are here?
I know there are many comedians who cover Politics in their act. But i'm specifically asking if there are people here who are consumers of talk radio and punditry particularly from comedic sources.

I've made a partial list below of comedians with their own TV, radio and podcast shows specifically devoted to political punditry. I've decided to add what they actually do so as to show their bona fides as pundits

    The big names
    - Stephen Colbert
    Colbert Report on Comedy Central

    - Jon Stewart
The Daily Show on Comedy Central

    - Bill Maher
Real Time: with Bill Maher on HBO

    - Dennis Miller
regular segment for The O'reilly Factor on FoxNews

    - Al Franken
former host on AirAmericaRadio and author

    Other greats
    - Sam Seder and Marc Maron
Break Room Live on AirAmerica Radio

    - Janeane Garofalo
    former host on AirAmericaRadio

    - Pete Dominick
    Stand Up on Sirius XM

    - DL Hughley
DL Hughley Breaks the News on CNN

    - Stephanie Miller
The Stephanie Miller Show on AirAmericaRadio

    - Jamie Kilstein
    Drunken Politics podcast

    - Lewis Black
has regular rant segment on The Daily Show

    Any fans? Discuss?
Might add in links if the kids are interested

Re: Comedians who are Political Pundits

Comedy and Everything Else isn't "specifically devoted to political punditry," but politics is almost always discussed. Therefore, I would add Jimmy Dore to your list.

I'd include Stephanie Miller on that list.

All the comedians on Air America? I'm not a fan of comedians that are pundits.

Dana Gould's appearance on Real Time last season was one of my favorite things ever, both for how funny he was and what a thurrough grasp he had on the myriad issues discussed.

Less political and more broadly social, cultural, and anthropological (and, thus, more important): Sir George Carlin (R.I.P.)
Night gathers, and now my snark begins. It shall not end until it gets hacky. I shall take my wife(... please!), hold no lands, father no negative ratings. I shall wear no crowns and win no AST Top 20 Rankings. I shall live and die by my posts. I am the LOL in the darkness. I am the fire that burns against the trolls, the sneer that guards the realms of men from Kyle Cease's Comedy Boot Camp. I pledge my life and honor to the AST's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.

We're gonna need these guys more than ever to keep politics funny now that Bush is gone

Re: Comedians who are Political Pundits

George Bush isn't the only potentially funny portion of politics. In fact, the best political comedians are the ones who can avoid the obvious jokes or make a fresh joke about a very obvious topic (George Bush). After 8 years of the same joke over and over, hacky comedians are gonna have to find a new joke to cling to.

Re: Comedians who are Political Pundits

That probably confirms what I was thinking before. A lot of the people I've listed have probably built their fanbase from those into politics rather than those who are really into comedy.

For a comedian that would be a bit sucky, as personally i'd prefer to build a base from comedy lovers than political partisans who don't mind a laugh. But then again comedy elitists could be annoying too.

Someone like Pete Dominick on Sirius hosts 2 different shows. A Comedy show and a loose Political show. He's able to cultivate an open minded political audience and also introduce them to the comedy world. He's getting better at crosspromoting. Being able to introduce fans of his comedy to politics and those interested in politics into comedy.

Then there's Sam Seder and Marc Maron of Air America. Especially during the days where Janeane Garofalo was on, they would invite their NY friends on regularly and they would chat and hang out in a clique-ish sort of way which is a pretty intimate format. So you'd have guys like LouisCK, Sarah Silverman, David Cross, Hank Azaria, Todd Barry, Bill Maher, Dave Chappelle just sh00ting the sh1t! The best part is hearing them recount tangential stories "remember the time when etc...."

Jimmy Dore is a sure fire "add" to that list. (Pop and Politics!)

Todd Glass refers to himself as more of a "Social Commentator" more than a political one, but I'd put him on the list too.

So, count me in (although I'm not a heavy poster) amongst those here who listen to political comedy and some political talk radio and podcasts. I burnout fast sometimes though, when things look grim... then I listen to NNF or something else purely entertaining.

Why isn't Lewis Black on that list?

political comedy is bullshit. it's funny if it's funny. a great comic can get away with making a political statement - if and only if they are funny. if a comic is true to their own sense of funny, any political statement will be made by the humor -- without the comic making an effort.

too many pundits, too few comics.

Mary Lynn Rajskub is my favorite political pundit...

Re: Comedians who are Political Pundits

How can it be that Nick DiPaolo and Patrice O Neal haven't be mentioned here? Am I the only one here who bases all of his world views on that channel? (Which is weird, because apparently I am a dirty European troglodyte)

O Neal defending Imus and Opie and Anthony whilst destroying a politically correct hack on Fox was an inspiration to anyone in comedy.

So, I'm gonna sound dumb... but...

Are those two on a podcast? or Sirius?
Cause it does sound like something I'd be interested in.
(I'm googling now to find out, but all the same any info or links would be great... in case I go on a google tangent)

Found The Nick DiPaolo Show on iTunes, only 4 episodes from a year ago. Downloading now.... Thanks

The first thing that came to mind was "I don't know who Nick DiPaulo is". Then something clicked when you said
destroying a politically correct hack on Fox
Sam Seder and Marc Maron mentioned this clip on their show, Maron was very nice towards Nick and spoke about how he use to run and do shows with him. Bemoaning what happened to the guy etc...
Will definitely seek out his stuff, hear his material and work out his angle.

Patrice was on Hannity and Colmes too, and I think they were shocked by what he was saying, and I loved it.

Re: Comedians who are Political Pundits

So go ahead and shout me down, but I'd like to also mention two other political humor podcasts...

The Bugle hosted by John Oliver and Andy Zaltzman, that is the same John Oliver from The Daily Show. It's very news based, but 100% funny. When "The American" visits it's gold!

The other is less edgy (and by less, I mean it's rounded on all corners so to offend only the most ignorant of listener) NPR's Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me. I like it, but I'm a nerd.
