Brian's story about his first open mic performance was amazing. Great episode!

These stories from Brian are killing me! Fricken whale.
Great episode with Spade -- I love the Farley strip club and steakhouse stories.
It's also weird listening to a podcast and hearing someone discuss the fact that they don't think you listen. I wrote and recorded a theme song, ferchrissake! True, I didn't send it in because it wasn't very good, so you would have no way of knowing that.
I kind of thought that in the first vintage Spade clip that he sounded a little like Barry Sobel.
nathan smart!

Citizen Jimmy Radio was great.
My personal highlight, Jimmy's nickname for Bobby Jindal; "Slumdog Squarepants".

Aww man, I hate that I missed this live. If you're like me and you hate yourself for the awful thing you've done you'll be happy to know that the show is now up on KPFK's audio archive.
You guys should hold Spade to his promise to become a regular!
Loved his leather jacket story...that was definitely beast of him.
I concur with Spade coming back. He was cracking me up.
happy 81st post Mr. Morris!!!!
was so glad to hear my best friend indirectly mentioned on the Jim Gaffigan episode - he was the guy who said "your day" and doug heard it as "you're gay" and WENT OFF on him. what a nightmare it was to have one of my favorite comedians look me directly in the eye and say "you fuckin' piece of shit!"
i want to preface my next remark by saying that i think brian regan is a very talented performer - but am i the only one that is baffled by the admiration that jimmy, todd & steph (along with a lot of other comedians) have for his material? i just don't get it.
I didn't really appreciate him until I started doing comedy myself. His similar to Gaffigan in that he gets insane amounts of mileage out of the mundane. I think nearly every comic wishes they could cover topics and thoroughly as Regan does.
From my view, he seems to only appeal to real casual comedy fans and comics themselves. Somehow comedy nerds who don't actually do comedy don't find him as appealing. Though perhaps I'm way off base.
You can listen to Brian Regan Live for free here. I think the first 15 minutes, some of which they played during his episode, are some of the funniest moments in stand up history.
His first Comedy Central Presents is also amazingly great. I think his more recent material has been a little less funny (still so fun and entertaining), but it's head and shoulders above most other stand up out there. He's basically been at/near the top of his/the game for the last 12+ years and is yet to do anything to compromise himself artistically as far as I know. If that doesn't garner respect from fellow comedians, I am not sure what else would. You also can't ask an artist to make genre defining material every time out.
My only gripe with the last two episodes was that they were a little too interview-y. I don't know if I would have called myself a David Spade fan before this, though I used to watch Just Shoot Me all the time, but his stories were awesome. I really hope they have both of them back on at some point. I think most guests' second appearance on this show has been better than the first because Jimmy the Leader, Todd and Stef have allowed them to participate in the regular version of the show as a fellow commentator instead of doing an interview. Some of the best stories in both episodes came out of free flowing conversation instead of the set questions.
I'll second what cameron said about Regan being able to get the most out of a topic. Todd once told a story about how Regan had a whole bit about the process of signing mortgage papers that was hilarious, and how Todd was amazed, cause he had gone through that very process and never saw any potential for comedy there.
But I also think that independent of their respect for him as an artist, they just geniunely find his material really funny. His material just may not appeal to the average comedy nerd, but we're used to comedians who tell a lot of rape, AIDS, and holocaust jokes, or have a different style of performing that appeals to us. In Regan's case, he just does traditional stand-up with standard topics, so it may not seem as appealing. But Todd and Jimmy seem to have really goofy senses of humor, and i think it really goes with Regan's material.
Also, he came up through mainstream means, so wasn't really in our consciousness the way Patton, Louis CK, or Doug Benson were as they were getting bigger and bigger. I know me personally, I first heard of him on Comedy Central when he had his first special, and I didn't even want to give him a chance cause he was clean and I thought it would just be lame observational humor. It wasn't until I listened to this podcast that I actually gave him a real listen.

Jimmy, I don't think waterboarding someone over and over and over constitutes torture. Maybe his email password was 183 digits long...

I don't know if anyone from the show still reads this thread, but on the last episode you guys were trying to figure out a bit about how someone being gay choosing a life of ridicule and prejudice is absurd. I think that's a David Cross bit.
