I haven't heard them, are they significantly different?

I dunno about significantly different, the newest is definitely not his best though. The Acid Bootleg is better than any of this actual records. He's great.

Significantly? Well, they're all his style so not different there, but definitely different in material. I was just trying to find out if you were a fan previously and just thought his new album wasn't good. From the sound of it though, sounds like the guy just may not be what you find funny. (that sentence took effort to type). OK, thread jack over, sorry.

I enjoy Doug Stanhope thoroughly, but you pretty much can't be a libertarian and be completely sane.

Jimmy Dore the Michael Phelps of comedy? hahaha, you guys need to get off the weed

    Re: Comedy and Everything Else

Jimmy confirms, he does consider himself the Michael Phelps of comedy.

As to whether that means he thinks he's the most celebrated comedian in the history of his profession or just that he identifies with Phelps' love of marijuana is a different matter.

No doubt. Doug, as a fellow Canadian you'll likely agree that Jimmy is more of the Ross Rebagliati of the comedy world - still a medalist - high on the weed while he did so, but not a record shattering world beater (would Dane Cook be the Phelps of Comedy?).

Jimmy says he's the Phelps of comedy. Rebagliati had his moment and then disappeared into obscurity! I agree with your interpretation, but a man's self-definition is his own choosing.

I really appreciated this most recent episode. I think there needs to be more conversations about white privilege, as well as how it's not white people's place to declare racism over. Good "Everything Else," as well as "Comedy" this round!

This is a good piece on that subject if you haven't read it before, http://usapetal.net/wpmu/eh226/2009/...ible-backpack/

For sure, or any Tim Wise essays.

Yeah I really enjoyed the Dr. Laura talk, I had been hearing about it and was probably going to google it today, but I'm glad I didn't have to and got to hear all the commentary. What a nut. Though it would have be interesting if they could of touched on answering the question (that the original lady called in to ask Dr. Laura about how to react around racists), but more eloquently. Some members of my (white) family are super casually racist and it can get pretty frustrating and uncomfortable when N-bombs are dropped repeatedly in one conversation about nothing particular. It's like should I stop the convo and say something every time they say it or can I wait until after every third time? Anyway, ramble ramble. I enjoyed the race talk!

Great episode. Funny and refreshing perspectives all around.

So what's up with Jimmy attending the boot camp? has it been mentioned?

Tim Wise is great, but my only beef with him is that I've seen him on a whole lot of race debates on news shows where they wind up having Tim Wise instead of an actual minority, but that's less his fault and more the fault of CNN or whoever. A white guy espousing reparations is enlightened, while a black guy doing it is overly angry and should "get over it".

Jimmy, I don't understand why you didn't go to the boot camp BEFORE the interview. Cease clearly was willing to give you that option. Then, instead of reiterating the criticisms of people who had no direct contact with it, you could actually speak from a place of experience and ask relevant and informed questions.

Also, it would have been helpful if you would have discussed Cease's interest in self-help books and programs. It's clearly informing his language, thinking, and the boot camp itself. Pick up a copy of The Success Principles or anything similar and you'll see where Cease got all his material from.

I'm a big Stanhope fan but I can't listen to his first two albums. Deadbeat Hero is good, and Something to Take the Edge Off is a lot mellower (he's got a bassist backing him).

That is unfortunate. You might ask for a refund.

Romantic intrigue! Prepare the tabloids for: Steftunek, Paulfané and more.
