My God, that "listener mail" episode was nothing short of an embarrassment. Jimmy's attempts to "address the concerns of listeners" were just awful - petty, mean-spirited, and pedantic. Not a fan, not a fan.
I didn't really think much of it - this is pretty much what you get with Jimmy. Any standouts to point to what you guys are talking about? I don't get all the "low point for the show" talk.

I can't help but think that people who didn't like the listener mail ep are the same kinda people who would have written those emails. I don't get it. I still love the podcast.
Jimmy's typical line of defense against the criticisms seemed to be:
1) "I'm a professional comedian and you're not"
2) Nitpicking and mocking
It's not that I disagree with Jimmy's stance on the whole Kyle Cease/bootcamp thing (I don't) but if he's going to take the time to address listeners who do disagree, then he shouldn't be so dismissive. It makes him sound really defensive and petty.
Gah, I don't want to keep harping on it. I really really liked this last episode a lot, the email part was the only thing I didn't care for. I thought the rest of it was fantastic.
I thought that's what we liked about Jimmy - that he's a hotheaded fireball given to emotional, over-exaggerated rants. He's like the liberal Dennis Miller. Jimmy Dore is the 80s Dennis Miller of the 2000s.
And by that I mean, no I don't.

I think it was more of a problem with e-mails themselves than anything:
E-mail vs. Talking discussions are always lopsided. One person can defend and clarify themselves, one person can't. Guess who's going to win that argument?
"Lets dissect this paragraph, figure out what it's saying, and then argue with what we think it says" is poor way to facilitate discussion or address concerns, is all. A misguided episode, I would say.
(as opposed to Mr. Bell and Mr. Avery, who were great.)
I'm a MAN, dammit!
Is the new ep up? My iTunes isn't showing it.

Duncan:The W.H.O. Jimmy: who?
Jimmy was drunk during Kyle Cease first episode. He was stoned during episode 104. You could hear in his voice he has cottonmouth and couldn't remember shit. I know he likes to be throuogh but that episode was rough. They didn't drop the new ep but I figure Kyle is threatening a lawsuit or something like that. Kyle is interviewed on "Really Good Podcast" and goes on about how he manipulates every situation but has no insight that he should be ashamed at all. Apparently he won the comedy central thing by telling people he would say their names on his podcast if they voted for him. He bragged about it saying he created a "weird Obama cult." Jack-ass to the core.
Nope, not at all. Parsed for your pleasure:
Anyway, why do you think Cease is threatening action? Did you hear that somewhere? I doubt it since Jimmy himself said...
So I doubt he's suing Jimmy.
Unless he fed Kyle some of Todd's soup. That I'd understand.
No news yet I take it

It's up now. Doesn't appear to be the conclusion of the Cease episode, but I've just jumped around in the first five minutes so far.

Hearing Kyle on the Dick and Darren podcast provides a fascinating juxtaposition to his CaEE interview where he's on the defensive. I previously chalked up the clumsiness of Kyle's riffing in the first part of the CaEE interview to nervousness related to having to address his critics but he seems just as awkward here. The way he nervously explains every joke reminds me of co-workers with low self-esteem who'd apologize every time they attempted to crack a joke. It's the kind of attitude that leads to packing in Starbucks gift cards in with the demo tape you send off to a club owner.
Hey Paul - just so you know, if you were going to make the joke about the Jewish NAACP it would be the NAAJP - the 'N' in NAACP doesn't stand for the n-word.
