i'm not an expert on the new york scene, but i assume it's very tough to get into the comedy clubs without doing bringer shows. i'm opposed to that system, but also don't know any way around it (other than getting so funny in the smaller clubs that you get work on television and then the clubs are happy to hire you).
but as long as there's an audience, who cares if it's a club or a coffee house or a crack alley? just do you thing, man! if you are any good, it will all fall into place. and if you suck...leave me alone!

hey doug, i was wondering if you have the video of you on the A-List and if somehow it could be uploaded to the youtubes? i was just listening to your guest spot on the Comedy and Everything Else podcast and you were talking about your comedy touchstones and it reminded me that that show was one of mine, having seen for the first time you, brian regan, and andy kindler on it. been hoping for a while that it would show up on youtube unprompted but no luck...

hey gang, i hope to see some of you new york ast-ers at the del close marathon this weekend, but that event doesn't need any promoting by me. on the other hand, THE BENSON INTERRUPTION is moving to the second monday of each month at ucb-la at...11:00pm! i'm worried that the late time slot won't work in cali (people go to bed early here, especially on monday), so i'm imploring that all l.a. ast-ians come out to get us off to a strong start. aziz ansari is gonna be there, and i'll make sure to line up some of your other favorites and a few surprises.

Doug, rumor has it that you will be making a triumphant return to the Pittsburgh area in early September. The wife and I are excited, mostly because we want to laugh, but partially because we want to earn our revenge with a game of "Bags."
My question to you: when you're in Pittsamaburgh, you're doing Thursday - Saturday. Which is the best show to see (besides all of 'em)? My initial guess is the very last Saturday show, but I could be completely wrong because I'm just guessing because I'm an ig-nor-ray-moose.
And while you're in town, please indulge in a trip to the Strip District for some Pittsburgh Popcorn Company Peanut Butter and Chocolate Kettle Corn. It's a stoner's delight, my friend. You will not be disappointed! Their menu ... it's the best ... it's more crack-like than KFC chicken skin.

What's your usual writing method and whatnot?
no consistent method to speak of, i just mostly try to remember the funny shit i say (on stage and off). it's not the best system, but it seems to be working for me.
