Who the fuck is Marcus?
Who the fuck is Marcus?
Did you read pg13's post? He explains who Marcus is.
(I'm not trying to be rude, I seriously don't understand how you read the post and missed the part where he explained in full who Marcus is).
The songs seemed more.... what's the word? Sincere? When they were live, they had this hilarious sort of, I don't know how to put it, but honesty to them. They almost seemed like they were trying to be serious, and that's what made me laugh. I agree especially on Robots, the original live one will always be the best
There's word of a movie. Already in development, apparently.
Well, that's very interesting. Any other details? I couldn't find a link after a quick Google, I'll try harder later.
But yeah, when they're performing stuff live, it just seems more personal and absurd and more is left to the imagination. Plus, there's room for a lot more extra lines and interjections. Which is why I'm excited to see them soon. It's like a little extra finale, heh.
Little late to the party, just saw the finale last night.
I think it wrapped up the series pretty well. I agree with the statement that this season had better episodes than songs as well. Though I must admit I loved "I Told You I Was Freakie" and "Sugalumps" so much that I had to get them on iTunes that second they were up.
The ending fit and certainly was a play off for the entire series' NZ jokes.
As for a movie, as long as they don't try to make it a stoner comedy and stay true to the sense of humor they have in their songs and episodes, I'd buy that for a dollar.
I had never even considered a movie. I think it's a phenomenal idea and trust them to not mess it up.
I think it's available on myspleen and other places, but if you have HBO Comedy, it looks like they are going to be showing the Flight of the Conchords "One Night Stand" special on April 4th at 10:30 PM EST.
It's a great special, I'm not sure why it wasn't included with the Season 1 DVD set.
Well, I know they like to release the One Night Stands on DVD's by themselves (I have Louis CK's, for example) so maybe they planned on doing that, but... just... forgot?
The Conchords One Night Stand is a GREAT special and even though I have it on my hard drive, I really want to own it on DVD. It'd be great if they included that on the Season 2 DVD's.
I know Rhys Darby talked about a lot of cut footage, especially during the meetings where they would just improv for over 15 minutes at a time. Hopefully we'll get to see some of that.
I just got back from seeing FOTC live at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, the first stop on their 2009 tour. It was a great show. There were a few points where they seemed a little unrehearsed (Jemaine seemed to forget his lines a couple of times during "If You're Into It"), but mostly things went off very smoothly and without a hitch. Kristen Schaal opened for them, and she was hilarious. I now apologize for suggesting she doesn't have a lot of material, because she did all new stuff I've never seen before, and it was all very funny. In the course of her set she performed three little "playlets", one about the dangers of marijuana use, one that involved pots and pans having sex (don't ask), and one where she took on the role of a mattress.
The show featured a nice mixture of first season and second season songs; some of the second season stuff they did included "Carol Brown", "Hurt Feelings", a slowed-down version of "Sugalumps", and "I'm In Love With a Sexy Lady". When somebody in the audience yelled out "Too Many Dicks!", Jemaine quipped "Yes, there are maybe a few too many". Actually, I think Bret and Jemaine got a little tired of people yelling out song titles, to the point where an exasperated Bret said to the crowd at one point "Are you like this at every show you go to?"
There was one song that they did that I've never heard before- it involved a 10 year old (?) gunslinger named "Stana", whose name, we are told, is an anagram of "Satan". The song involves him meeting his identical doppleganger who is named "Anats". It was a pretty weird, long song (Bret asked when it was over if anyone needed to take a nap), but some of the lyrics were funny ("Stana" is such a lawbreaker that he disobeys all laws, including tax laws- he underreports the amount of income he made during the year- and the laws of nature ('He often occupies the same space as a solid unit of matter')
There were a few surprises that I didn't expect, including "Jenny" and, perhaps most surprising of all, "The Bus Driver's Song". They finished up with "Albi the Racist Dragon" and then came back and did "Angels" as an encore. Bret closed up the show by thanking the people of Tampa and acknowledged jokingly that "you're a very obnoxious bunch here. You're always shouting- you're like Will Ferrell!" On my way out, I picked up a vinyl copy of their first album (even though I don't have a record player, it's still cool to have as a souvenir). All in all a really good show- if I didn't have to work, I'd try to go see them in Orlando too, but I can't. I'd be interested in hearing any other concert reports from anyone else that gets a chance to see them though.
Fantastic, glad to hear it was a great show (though why wouldn't it be?).
Can't wait 'till I get to see 'em.
I imagine its a conflicting experience. On the one hand, two great comedians who you like and think are very funny, on the other hand, an audience singing along to comedy songs and shouting requests.
As long as I can hunt down and stalk the two of them afterwards, I'll be fine.
Did they do any signing? I'd like to get my Season 1 DVD signed.
I think Season 2 had some great songs, for example, Sugalumps, Hurt Feelings, Too Many Dicks on the Dance Floor, Carol Brown, You Don't Have To Be a Prostitute, Demon Woman, I Told You I Was Freaky...the others are good too...I actually liked them all. But opinions are opinions.
