General Louis CK thread

have we not had one since Question & Insult?

anyways, figured this was worth more than 'not worth its own thread.'

Deadspin (sports/ESPN type site) says Louis CK is the Best Stand-Comic of His Generation

i'm crossing my fingers that convicted sex-offender, brian huskey, has some problems with the law this season.

i'm sorry if you're a member of ast/read this, brian, but i'm sure you wouldn't mind the work, either.

Re: General Louis CK thread

A new (23+ minute) video was just uploaded to Louis C.K.'s YouTube account with this description: "This was a set I did last night at the Comedy Cellar, mostly trying out new material. SOme of these jokes work and some very much don't. There were about 25 people in the audience. I just thought I'd throw it up here for a while."

It's pretty much exactly what the description says - and the audio is horribly out of sync; Louis is hilarious, but the bits aren't polished... but I didn't come here to say any of that.

This is what stood out to me, this line: "Here's another indefensible point...." and then Louis launches into some obscene, offensive bit... per usual. Which is a bit part of why I love what he does.

In this video from a little over 3 years ago, Louis does something similar. You can tell he's only got a template of what he's going to say and around 7-8 minutes he says, "What other terrible things to defend?".

Matt Ruby at Sandpaper Suit has a good blog entry about Louis CK and the video above.

I typically can't get behind a comic who's hyper contrarian just for the sake of it, but Louis isn't that type of comic... for one, he's hilarious - and he's not preachy. He's offensive, but it's in service of this high quality material he's CONSTANTLY churning out.

It's kind of a spectacle to see his unpolished gems in media res, no?

Well, it's hilarious when he does it in that set... I mean, if that was his actual M.O. all of the time I think it could be pretty hilarious. It's funny to defend awful things. He's just joking...

A comic who does the contrarian thing to great effect regularly is Ron Bennington on the Ron and Fez Show on SiriusXM:

...not the best example of it, but sort of along these lines. And very funny, I think.

As for the untested Louis CK stand up material... I'm so grateful he posted it. It's really fascinating to see a great comic trying out new stuff and missing the mark, and it's a cool, fairly unedited look inside his head.
