So they've now added a student discount and a 2 for 1 deal for CDR? Kind of shitty for those of us who bought as soon as the show was announced. Boo to you Vancouver Comedy Fest. And your website sucks.

Anyway, really pumped about CDR and the Pardo shows. Can't wait.

Did we just get a 2 for 1 deal on that post?

I couldn't agree more about the website though, if I hadn't gone directly to the Yuk Yuk's site I might have missed out on the PFT and Kindler tickets. I'm really hoping that all these deals aren't too indicative of poor sales. It would be a shame to finally get to see some of these performers that I've been waiting years to see and be stuck in a shit crowd

A couple of really good free shows. Looking forward to Kindler's Talkshow, CDR and Stop Podcasting Yourself's podcast.

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed by that. I signed up for the comedyfestival website early on because they were pushing it hard, saying you'd get early show announcements and discounts... which never happened. I bought all my tickets as soon as they were announced to ensure I got seats, but if I had waited, I would have saved ~$70 on tickets for the shows I'm going to. I'm not pleased with how sales for this festival were handled.

That said, it will not affect my enjoyment of all these shows. I'm really excited. =P

    Ha, yeah sorry about that.

    That crossed my mind too.

Yeah, the organization has been terrible, but I'm still super excited about everything.

i think it's unfair to call the organization "terrible"
putting together a festival of this size with this many venues and performers is not an easy task. all of the comedians listed on the site making it to vancouver and performing as scheduled alone says something

it's dissapointing to pay full price when later there's a discount.. but that's the price we paid for guaranteed seats. it doesn't bother me too much because there's still other deals i can take advantage of, quality free shows & chances to see the same acts in smaller venues. overall i'm just grateful that a festival of this quality happens in vancouver. i wouldn't worry about current ticket sales.. if previous years are any indication, they'll all be fun shows with good crowds that go off without a hitch. and that's sort of the bottom line when determining if something has been promoted well

Well, even though (or maybe because) Andy Dick didn't make it 'cross the border, the Comedy Deathray show was absolutely wonderful tonight. I brought a friend who hadn't heard of any of the comics on the line-up and she loved it. Thanks and congratulations on a good show to Scott, BJ, Paul, Maria, Tig, Todd, Andy, Reggie, Phil, and Brent. (Hope I'm not forgetting anyone.)

Was he detained by customs, or just cancel at the last minute? I referenced this when I was blogging about JFL Montreal - how would Andy Dick ever get across our border in the first place? I'm curious about the details of this one, though -- did anyone say anything about exactly what happened?

I suspect that he didn't realize he couldn't leave the country with his ankle bracelet thing (part of his court-ordered sobriety or something) until he got to customs and learned the hard way.

cdr show was amazing. weinbach, kindler & watts were personal highlights but everyone was great

i can't believe the shithead that tried to heckle todd barry. todd handled it like a pro and the crowd was clearly on his side but i kind of wish they just booted the guy

    Re: Global Vancouver Comedy Fest

Andy's allowed to leave the country-- he brought the necessary modem to transmit his anklet readings back to the US. Canada just didn't want to let him in. We're bummed because we've been excited about doing these sketches we've been working on and perfoimg together. Oh well! Still had fun at the show.

Everyone please come to the cdr radio podcast recording today- FREE at the Westin Grand. 3pm! With guests Todd Barry, Paul F Tompkins, Garfunkel & Oates, and Reggie Watts!

Yeah seriously, fuck that douche. Scott was clearly bummed on that guy too...

On a more positive note, how fucking good was Tig Notaro's set? I'm glad that both Todd and her jumped on.

Thanks for coming to Vancouver guys, sorry about the few who ruin it for the rest.

By the way, anybody in Vancouver, I have an extra ticket for the "Edge of the Fest" tomorrow. It cost $84.75 (CAD) for two tickets, but I'd let it go for way cheaper to an AST-er. PM for offers if you're interested...

Actually, if anybody has a ticket for the Jimmy Pardo podcast taping, I'd trade for that as well...

Another big thanks from me for the CDR show last night in Vancouver. I drove all the way up from Seattle (and all the way home the same night!) just to see it -- and wasn't disappointed. Great sets all around.

I'm still amazed, though, at how upset, frustrated and angry I get when I see someone heckling one of my heroes. For those of us who went to such trouble to attend, it is doubly upsetting. Also: Who heckles a theater show?! Insane!

That aside: I have a media pass for the festival so I did get some fun photos of last night's show if anyone wants to see em.

I'll be back on Saturday for the Pardo shows and Edge of the Fest.

Did you happen to nab a photo of Tompkins with his double mics?

    Re: Global Vancouver Comedy Fest

I have quite a few double mic shots, but they are a bit overexposed, so I didn't post them originally. I've added them back in now. Scroll down to the bottom of the post and you'll see em.

That was the best I've seen a large Vancouver comedy audience behave in a long time. Only one real douche but yeah in a venue like the Vogue or the Centre they need to bounce those assholes right away. I'm glad Scott and BJ stopped the usher from removing the gal who was yelling at the jackass.

The CDR Podcast recording went really well, despite only about 10 audience members showing up and me creeping out Paul F. on twitter. He reprised his role as Ice T for probably the best Would You Rather on the show yet.
