Aw, man. The first thing I thought when I started reading the Penny Arcade Newspost was "They're on Jordan Jesse Go? Neat! I can't wait to listen to that. I wonder how it went."

The second thing was "...oh. So that's how it went."

Keeping the Xeni episode up for the Corolla fans is a great idea because that was a great and fun episode. And Brandon Bird was not only a really entertaining, funny episode (especially Chompers) but it exposed me to his artwork, which I've seen used on forums all over the place but never actually attributed to him. So good work on those bookings.
Thanks. Both Brandon (a friend since college) and Xeni (another friend of a number of years) sort of knew who we were and what we were up to, though neither are/were listeners. Maybe that's what we should be shooting for. Hard to know, really. I really like the idea of being able to converse with non-comedians on the show.

Have you ever loved a band so much, one that touched you deep down in your core, and then met a member of that band, only to find out that they're jerks, ruining their music for you? That's kinda what this sounds like, except I've never read PA.

(For the record, I don't think they're jerks; the musician example just seemed similar.)

Keep booking non-LA comedian guests. Even if there are 100s of misses the chance of striking gold with another Nick Hornby makes it all worthwhile. The way that man embraced naming ponies was a joy.

Gabe has weighed in on the podcast, saying (in part):

We also did the JJGO podcast as I'm sure you are aware by now. I'm not sure if Jesse is going to post it or not but if he does I think you'll see it here. People being late is one of my pet-peeves and so by the time they started recording (an hour after we were scheduled) I had long since slipped into asshole mode. I think it might actually make for a pretty funny podcast if they end up posting it.
So he cops to being an asshole and says that the podcast might be funny anyway. It's not an outright apology and invitation to go out for ice cream, but it doesn't look like much of a feud, either.

Too bad their hour of waiting wasn't filled with the ice cream from a potential ice cream invitation.

Or is it? Where would I be on this Tuesday without the drama and suspense over the possible-lost-podcast?

I vote for releasing it. This is a democracy, right?

Surprisingly due to some weird provision of the Patriot Act sponsored by the producers of Bring It On, all podcasts are actually cheerocracies.

I'm glad those guys are pricks because it justifies my blinding, white-hot hatred for Penny ARcade. WHEN WILL THE "+7 SWORD OF INTELLIGENCE" JOKES END?

PENNY ARCADE/BIG BANG THEORY/EVERY SHITHEADED IMPROV TEAM IN HISTORY... WHAT CAN I DO TO MAKE YOU STOP?

    It's podcasting, not podnicetics.

I have to say that thankfully this hasn't blown up to a full blown, 50s-style turf war because I might have had to forgone both Team Penny Arcade and Team JJG for Team Chompers.

As someone who remembers Jesse from the days at KZSC, I really have to applaud PA for the strip and post. He was constantly rude and mean spirited to everyone there. How he's scraped together the tiniest bit of a following is beyond me, there's nothing funny or appealing about him. Seems now he's conned a few losers into PAYING to hang out with him for a weekend. Talk about shady. The guys at Penny Arcade have a keen insight into character, and they were spot on once again.

Can I refute your post with 40,000 pounds of unfunny?

Great first post. You've really talked us out of liking a guy who does nothing but help promote genuinely great things that often don't otherwise get their due. A guy who chooses to scrape by on donations so he can make shows he's proud of and not compromise in any way. A guy who goes into five-figure credit card debt to organize a weekend retreat full of great entertainment and workshops just because he thinks it'd be fun for people.

You know why Jesse has a loyal following? He works his ass off to make a quality program and get it out to people who he believes would appreciate the things he champions. He's a positive force in a world full of easy snark and knee-jerk negativity. But I guess he rubbed you the wrong way in college, so by all means anonymously slander him on a message board you've never posted on before. That'll show him.

Interesting that the PA guys couldn't for a second believe that Jesse was sincere in liking the things he likes. Non-ironic love for the sometimes-ridiculous is impossible and must be a "hipster" thing, apparently.

As a nerdling, I grew up with PA. Tycho always had a sharp, acidic way with words but that anti-Jesse post just sounded . . . grumpy and snide.

We can't everyone be pals, huh?

Also seems that the guys in Them Crooked Vultures, Muse, and Pavement have also conned a few losers into PAYING to hang out with them for a weekend in some place called Coachella as well. Sounds even more shady...

Wow, Penny Arcade traffic crashed maximumfun.org? I am always a little shocked by the massive popularity of PA... Not that it's a bad comic, but HOLY SHIT is it niche! Have you ever read it? I play vidja games a bit here and there and I have never understood any of the Penny Arcade strips I've seen. I've had some of 'em 'splained to me in previous moments of incredulity much like this one, and they often go beyond just writing about the games themselves and get into the people who make the games and the corporate culture in the industry... Are there really that many people that far up on this stuff? I guesso... But anyway, not sure why they'd even try and do J.J. Go! When there are about 800,000 video game-centric podcasts out there... Seems like it was kind of a doomed episode from the start, and then Jesse went out and brought out that one guy's DARK SIDE...

Re: Jordan, Jesse, Game! featuring John Hodgman and Andy Daly

I had a roommate in college who loved Penny Arcade to the point that he would wake me up from one of my many day long naps and make me get up out of my bed and read them and then explain them to me when I didn't laugh. I understood the jokes just fine, I just didn't find them the least bit funny. He also watched Legend, Fight Club and Neon Genesis Evangelion all the time and constantly told blatantly false stories about his heroic exploits in high school. I don't even want to get into his bathroom habits.

I hated that guy more than all of my other shitty roommates in college, even the racist homophobe who was constantly fucking his high school aged girlfriend at all hours of the day with no signal to me that I would be walking into the room with them going at it.

But you know what? As annoying as he was, that was almost ten years ago now. I'm assuming that's probably how long it's been since The Awful Truth knew Jesse too, and since I'm not a pathetic psychopath with an axe to grind, I don't Google for my ex-roommate's name looking to shit all over him for being an annoying human being a decade ago.

But maybe I'm looking at this from the wrong perspective, after all men in their early 20s never rub anyone the wrong way at that age and then gradually mature over the ensuing decade of their life. It's a good thing that we all judge everyone by how they behaved when we knew them years ago and then never ever reassess that opinion and let it color any subsequent information we become privy to.

Oh also, reading this sentence was the only time I've ever laughed at anything Penny Arcade related:

" The guys at Penny Arcade have a keen insight into character, and they were spot on once again"

The only thing those two dorks have a keen insight into is their own lint-choked navels.
