Re: Death Comes to Town (Bruce McCulloch & The Kids in the Hall, 2009?)

I checked my sources (wikipedia) and found no news about this movie, but apparently the kids were honored with their own star on the Canadian walk of fame last month.

All five of them have to share just one star? That's only like a point of the star each, and you just know poor Kevin's points toward an open sewer or a lump of dog turd.

I will ask around about this. They did deliver with the tour they've been talking about for years, perhaps they'll come through with a film as well. I have to wonder if this is going to be a tour related DVD, seeing that the Dave Foley directed "Same Guys New Dresses" chronicled the 2000 reunion, and "Tour of Duty" captured two shows I went to see in Vancouver during the '02 tour. I did read an article recently where Foley said they haven't gotten along this well with each other in a LONG time. Either way, this is good news.

Apparently this is now not going to be a film, but an eight-part television series.

Cult Canadian comedy troupe The Kids In The Hall are returning to TV.
The five-strong sketch team, whose original series ran in North America in the late eighties and early nineties, are to make eight new episodes for Canadian broadcaster CBC next year.

And the show, tentatively titled Death Comes to Town, has been inspired by The League of Gentlemen.

Star Dave Foley said: ‘It'll be an eight-episode arc with a narrative running through it. We will play all the characters but it won't be sketch, it'll be a single narrative mini-series.

‘Probably the closest thing to it would be something like The League of Gentlemen, which I think was brilliant. So I hope it will be close to that.’

The team, who have previously been compared to Monty Python, have been off the air since 1994; although they reunited this year for a live comeback tour following the success of an appearance at Montreal’s Just For Laughs festival.

The Kids are also considering a movie, despite the slating their 1996 film Brain Candy received.

‘We're still talking about doing a feature as well, but first we have to wait until everyone who ever saw Brain Candy is dead,’ Foley added.

First of all, "Brain Candy" is a great movie (suck on that dissidence, Foley!).

Secondly, this is the most important comedy news AST has seen in some time. This thread deserves a sticky or a shiny decal or something.

8 episodes with an arc? Oh my....

Maybe it'll end up being a co-production with an American network. Canada just suffered major cuts to the arts*, and all of the non-publicly funded networks aren't exactly rolling in cash right now.

Kevin McDonald on the status of the project:

the new KITH TV project for the CBC, an eight-part miniseries called "Death Comes To Town," begins filming in Canada this August (no U.S. TV partnership just yet).
