Yea, I keep forgetting what we are supposed to think is cool, too.

I'm kidding, and I think I get what you meant by that.
I have a hard time being faux-mean on messageboards, especially one where I only have 79 posts.

It does seem to be about cultivating a certain type of amusing, nonthreatening blandness that will go over decently with most audiences. But through all of the interviews I've listened to with comics I love, it seems like there are at least a number of clubs that take an interest in fostering and developing local comics, so, "The club system sucks," doesn't seem quite right. But maybe that's just how it used to be. I have no idea. Yea, I'm going to stress that I have no idea.

$3K a class just doesn't seem right, though, and him bringing up Second City was kind of weird since it's such an easy argument to shoot down ("People have to learn the rules and skills to work as a team from somewhere").

I know there are clubs that are good to their customers, comics, the local scene, etc. But, in listening to all these podcasts with comedians (and being a comedy club patron myself) I get the feeling that those types of clubs are more rare than the norm.

He talks about being true to yourself and then does "remember the 80's material". It's just offensive.
So you came to bury Cease-r, not to praise him.

I like what I did there.

Unfortunately, they are, but they're out there. And believe me, they are appreciated. And when you're going to one, your whole mood is different as a comic. That's when it's not a job and you just feel happy to be part of comedy for another night.

The five day Stand Up Mastery course is under way right now at The Comedy Store. Students are live tweeting little nuggets of wisdom they gleamed under the hashtag #scamp10. I am only sharing this so you all have the opportunity to learn something. I am not saying to GO ON TWITTER RIGHT NOW AND MESS WITH THE HASH TAG #SCAMP10. I wouldn't do that.
Imagine this is really clever and really funny.

Well thanks to that hashtag I am now aware that there is a bot that retweets any tweet with the word "fart" in it.

Yeah those idiots! Having fun! Getting something out of it! Assholes!

For real real though, looking through those tweets from the real people I came upon this:

    http://www.jasonmoffatt.com/comedy/s...amp-day-1.html

The first guest speaker of the boot camp was . . .
Tim Sanders. Tim is a master networker, business genius, author and dynamic keynote speaker. One of his better known books is called The Likeability Factor.
So far sounds like a motivational seminar with stand-up comedy slopped on top.

I really really hope Jimmy Dore is at this right now.

No, I think that is a real quote! - and no one is making fun of the people there, we are making fun of the organizers.

    Re: Kyle Cease

Actually I'm going to start making fun of the people attending, for being suckers.

I started following ASTers posting jokes and accidentally mixed in a person who is being earnest. I honestly can't tell which is funnier to me.

    Re: Kyle Cease

Dave Shumka just posted a tweet that would have been perfect for a #scamp10 hashtag

"The most important part of a Schwarzenegger impression isn't the accent; it's not letting your better judgment to talk you out of doing it."

    Re: Kyle Cease

Kevin Nealon is slated to speak during this event. I really look to him. But wouldn't be funny if he did his whole lecture as Subliminal Guy? "The most important thing to know about comedy (comedy pyramid scheme) is to be your authentic self on stage (earn commissions by getting others to take this course) and not waste time questioning the legitimacy of things (sorry no checks or COD's). When you're ready, you can open for me (you'll never be ready). Thanks everybody!"

Oh man I'd pay to see that.

I mean, not 3 grand. I'd pay $.99 for the track on iTunes.
