I'll say this for Kyle Cease's chops as an inspirational comic: he's inspired a lot of great jokes about Kyle Cease.

First off, let me just say that I am 85% percent sure Kyle Cease isn't posting under Jixby's name. Check that, bump it up to 90% sure. I've got my eye on you, JIXBY.
Shane, thanks so much for replying. I can relate with not wanting to pay for anything as a college student, but even my cheap ass still manages to pay for shows a few times a month down at the comedy club in the next town over. We had 2 big shows: Friday night's show was 1 student opener for 5, Wyatt Cenac for 15, Maria for 30, Paul for 30, and Lewis for 50. Saturday was the other student opener for 5, Brian Tucker for 15, Maria for 30, Paul for 30, Lewis for 50. Kenan Thompson from SNL was in there somewhere with a short set (that mostly consisted of audience members yelling WHERE'S KEL?!) but I don't remember where. So I'd say total the shows ran short of 2 1/2 hours. Maybe a little closer to 2. All panel discussions and workshops with the comedians were FREE. What a treat to see Lewis, Paul F, Maria, Ann Beats, and Kenan on the same stage just being funny. Shame only 15 people saw it happen.
Last year was my first year at UNC so I can't say if the festival has ever been really successful - I'll get back to you on that. But I can tell you that it's always been called "Lewis Black and Friends", a name that I talked to Lewis about changing because it's kinda a weak name and it doesn't give the other comedians proper respect. By the way, Lewis is a UNC alum, so this is really his show - he comes in free, stays in his house down the street, does a free show, goes around campus talking to people. He really is a great, genuinely funny guy. I think we should have advertised the show beyond just the campus (the general public tickets were 30) because that kind of bill would draw in comedy fans from over an hour in any direction.
Lastly, any thoughts of other comedians to bring in for this year? My first thoughts were to pitch for Kyle Cease, Aziz Ansari, and maybe Sarah Silverman, depending on the price. Sarah has such smart comedy though - I dunno if her sense of humor would be appreciated by college kids, haha.
That's really cool for Lewis to do that
A cheap way to advertise to the general public is to get an ad in one of those free newspapers that have a lot of ads for concerts. The one here is called City Beat, I'm not sure if they have those down in Chapel Hill or not.
That's unbelievable that only 15 people went to those panel discussions...people either must have not known about it, or didn't know what it was.
As for other ideas, here's a website with some price ranges of a bunch of comedians...http://www.concertideas.com/college_concert_search.php.
Sarah Silverman is extremely expensive compared to Aziz and Kyle Cease. Some other good comics for college students in the Aziz/Cease range are Daniel Tosh, Michael Ian Black, Doug Benson, Jimmy Pardo killed when I brought him in last year, Mike Birbiglia, John Reap (he's from NC) (HICKORY), Arj Barker, and Patton Oswalt

I did not know that about John Reep -- he never mentions it.John Reap (he's from NC) (HICKORY)
You don't think Danny Tosh is at the same level as Sarah? I place him upper echelon of the comedy world. But a bill of Cease and Tosh would quite possibly make the audience's brains explode in my opinion. That's some fast-paced comedy, haha. I was thinking about asking about Jimmy Pardo, but seeing as he has really cut back on the nationwide touring I think it would be a lost cause. Even so...Cease/Tosh/Pardo/Black? That rivals PFT/Bamford/Black. Might even TOP IT for the college crowd.
Thanks for the link Shane! That'll be useful for price ranges. We had a very generous budget, though it will definitely be cut this year because of the economy. I really hope they give us enough funding to bring in great names like last year.
EDIT: Black looked right at me the last day, brought it up again, and said he agreed. With a completely straight face. BOOM.
I think he was just saying Sarah is more expensive to book than Tosh ($100,000+ vs $20,000), which makes sense: she's more famous, and does fewer college shows (or road gigs in general). Comics who don't need to go out on the road, and don't really want to, can just jack up their quote to the point that most bookers won't bother, and if someone is willing to spend that amount of money, it makes it worth their while.
OH THAT KYLE CEASE.
"This is not the Beach Boys. It can't be. Why? No beach songs! I thought it was some kind of joke. All 'Pet Sounds' offers is the opportunity to hear Brian Wilson whine for forty minutes, backed by elevator music. There's barely any Mike Love on the album at all."
That would be a spectacular lineup. Don't count out Pardo, he's still doing Saturday dates. Speaking of that, part of the attendance problem might be the weekend shows. The main competition for Friday and Saturday night shows are parties, so maybe making the shows earlier would help attendance (but not too early, early comedy shows are weird). That way, the students could go to the show and it wouldn't be too late to party.
I know, he's rivaling pg13 on not stating where he's from.
Yes, this is all I was trying to say. Thank you, Matt.

Have we all seen this? Because it should be seen.
There is an earlier trailer which was deleted. Todd Barry is reputed to have saved it before it was taken down.
