Too bad I don't like either of those bands. Hopefully Stella will do a proper tour or at least a new stage show soon.

In David Wain's interview on aintitcool.com, he indicates that The State (all of them) will probably be perfomring new material at SF Sketchfest in January.

    Here's the excerpt:

Beaks: There's been a great deal of anticipation out there for THE STATE DVD and, perhaps, a reunion. I know there was something in the works with Comedy Central, but--

Wain: The update is this: I'm pretty sure we're doing a live show of all-new material at the San Francisco Sketchfest in January. The entire group will be there. And we still have loose plans to do a Comedy Central special of some kind sometime next year. The TV series DVD has been finished and ready to go for two years, and is being held by MTV. We are told they will be releasing it sometime in '09.

Showalter and MIB have put up some photos from The State SF Sketchfest rehearsal last night and they are fun and adorable.

Also, is Showalter joking about doing Porcupine Racetrack because...are you allowed to joke about doing Porcupine Racetrack? In any case, I'm now more excited than ever about the show tonight eeeeeeeeeee!

Re: MTV's The State... and all things related

    just got back.
there's still a lot of jaded hipster in me, which is dulling down the shine of my review, but i'm still excited as hell about this show and these 15 years of (often) occasional obsession has reached a satisfying climax, seeing all 1a members of the state on stage together. michael patrick jann (always my favorite) and todd holoubeck included.
at 27, i'm probably about at the median age of the member base of this message board, and the state was right in my wheel house. before mr. show and the upright citizens brigade and after kids in the hall (well, at the end of season five... if you got hbo at the time), the show was probably my first real exposure to "alternative" comedy. it might even have been one of the reasons i was drawn to their alma-matter, nyu (vague flashes of the sklar bros' apt. 2f might have played a role too); and to see the entire crew together on stage, lipsynching in tyvek paint-suits (m.i.b.'s being of particular note), was incredible. i attended the late show and i saw eugene mirman, zak orth, john mulaney, and paul scheer standing outside as the first show let out and we lined up for the late show. some guy who saw the first show was in line right in front of us and chatting with him definitely helped build anticipation.
it was a modified version of the show they put up at ucb last year (which i did not see, but based on recaps photos seems like at least two or three sketches came from), with one sketch with the three stella guys (the michael & michael interstitial video was shown too) and an (admittedly near eye-watering) encore of "porcupine racetrack." those who are big enough comedy nerds might remember the gist/recap/pictures from the last thread, which was lost in the last crash, and those who don't can wait for the dvd.
i'd imagine it will be footage from all three shows (ucb-la '08, sf sketchfest '09 8pm & 10pm) cut together, but at least the opening and closing sketches, as well as the afformentioned david/michael/michael (with a kevin cameo) sketch are new to the sketchfest shows. i couldn't help but sing along to "porcupine racetrack," but i was not one the drunks in the front row to whom ken pointed towards during his solo.
i don't have tickets to the show, but i'd imagine that tomorrow's conversation (with janeane garofalo) will also be filmed for an extra on this dvd or the state season 1 dvd.

Re: MTV's The State... and all things related

I just came back from the Wet Hot American Summer Screening and the late show and let me just say, the audience at the screening was pretty fucking embarrassing with their questions. "HEY I GOTTA QUESTION.. what happened? weren't you on ABC for a second?" "WHERE'S PAUL RUDD?"

The cast (Wain, Black, Showalter, Orth, Garofalo, Marino, Lo Truglio, Salett) were pretty forgiving, despite being a little annoyed at lack of legitimate questions, and reenacted a couple scenes: Michael Ian Black's shed scene and Going to the City.

The late show tonight was pretty much a modified version of the UCB show back in March. The only sketch missing was the construction worker bit which was going to be done by Michael Ian Black and Showalter, but because they didn't get around to rehearse it, it was scrapped.

There was one new sketch with Wain, Black and Showalter talking about the original name of Columbus' boat, The Santa Vagina.

Like Yumi mentioned, even with the same show, it was still pretty amazing to hear porcupine racetrack live. I couldn't have asked for a better encore piece.

    It's hilarious and wonderful?

I was at the early show and while not every moment of every sketch was honed to perfection, it was amazing to see them all together again and the material was pretty solid. We left happy.

I have to agree with the shame at being in that lame WHAS audience. What is the matter with people? God.
