Thread: MTV's The State... and all things related

speaking of trailers... state dvd trailer.
"This is not the Beach Boys. It can't be. Why? No beach songs! I thought it was some kind of joke. All 'Pet Sounds' offers is the opportunity to hear Brian Wilson whine for forty minutes, backed by elevator music. There's barely any Mike Love on the album at all."

Re: MTV's The State... and all things related

People are complaining that entire scenes had to be re-dubbed to facilitate the music replacements, specifically the Barry and Levon pudding scene. Has anyone else heard this?

Re: MTV's The State... and all things related

Yeah,I've heard it too, I think it's true. I'm excited for the set anyway.

Re: MTV's The State... and all things related

thanks for the solid info, jenny.

i don't know anything about new adr because of music replacements. i died a little after seeing the pants sketch without cannonball and never watched the re-dubbed show on itunes/online.

i do vaguely recall an article/interview that mentioned that source material was somewhat hard to come-by during the music substitution process, which lends creedence to the idea that they'd have to scrap whole audio tracks and re-dub the speaking parts.

I never watched it on iTunes either. I checked out the pudding sketch on mtv.com, and while the dialogue seemed fine, the audience laughter was a lot bigger and more canned than I remember it being.

    Still, small price to pay.

Re: MTV's The State... and all things related

i still have my bootlegs of the original shows so the big price i paid back in 1999 will mitigate the pain of this small price.

After these come out, somebody should make mp3s of the original show audio that you can sync up with your DVDs. GOOD IDEA!

i dunno, there may be a better place for this, but a commencement speech david wain gave earlier today at Luzerne Community College (PA):

Wow haha. I'm pretty sure one if not both of my parents (and countless other family members) took classes there at some point. It's right down the street from where my mom grew up in the tiny town of Nanticoke. I'd tell my parents but they have no idea who David Wain is.

I just bought the Stella dvds over the weekend an I cannot believe I didn't like this show when it was on TV... it's exactly the show I would make if I had talent.

I thought you said State and was confused at first.

Stella is everything I love in a series. They probably owe a debt to shows like Get A Life and other goofs on the sitcom format, but no one in TV history is as fucking crazy as those three characters.

From I Love The State on myspace:

The State for the first time (technically second time --since they showed a couple clips on the Human Giant Marathon in 07) in years will be on television! MTV2 will be showing half episodes each night at 2am all this week and next week until next Thursday!

    Here's MTV2's schedule for proof:
