Episode 509 - 6.10.09
Getting saucy with Randy and Jason Sklar.
My vote now goes to "The Hook" as most meta, although it's really a pop song about pop music, not a rock song about rock 'n roll per se.
I agree with Isos, my answer is the best

I'll nominate a meta rock album: Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here. Coming after the monster success of Dark Side of the Moon, the whole song cycle is self-referential. Part tribute to founder Syd Barrett (Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Wish You were Here); and part music industry expose (Welcome to the Machine, Have a Cigar.)
Plus, this is the album that contains the famous lyric, "By the way, which one's Pink?"
I leave the decision to JudgeJohn HodgmanJimmy.
This isn't the crowd for it, but Reel Big Fish's song Sell Out is very meta.
Especially considering that it's their only 'hit'.
Reel Big Fish has a lot of songs like that. "We Care" is all about thanking the fans who stayed with them after the 3rd wave of ska passed in the 90's. "One Hit Wonderful" is them looking back at the sucess of "Sell Out". Heck, I'd say that is their most meta song since it is a song about the sucess of a song which was about them signing onto a label. Pretty recursive.
However, considering that at least three of their albums form together to vaguely tell the story about the rise a fall of a band which is basically them, a whole lot of their songs are meta. Heck, whole albums.
The Mudfoot quote was in the Biz Markie song "Doin' the Mudfoot".
If you have Judge Jimmy, you need Barrister Belknap.
Chelsea fan? You're dead to me, Belknap.
If it helps, I am barely able to follow them between my busy schedule and the fact that they are a continent away.
It sort of helps. You're a zombie to me now.
It all started when I decided to follow the Premier League a couple of years ago, and I looked at the teams to make an arbitrary choice for who to follow. I whittled it down to Reading (because they're in Berkshire, and I grew up in Berkshire County in Western Mass.), Fulham (because they had/have a fair number of U.S. players) and Everton (can't remember why -- I think Tim Howard from the U.S. national team is/was their goalie?). Then, partway into the season I realized that only four teams are ever any good in the Premier League, and thus get the majority of TV coverage in the U.S., and out of those four I liked Chelsea the best -- oh and my stepbrother lived in London for a while growing up and supports them, so he brought me in.
Sporots!
I was shocked that the Sklars hadn't heard Lee 'Hacksaw' Hamilton. Way back in the day, when Rome was on a 1 million watt blowtorch station out of Tijuana, he used to work with Hamilton (who I think was doing Chargers games at that time).
Anyway, Rome would constantly mock him. "Poway! Where are you?! I haven't heard from Escondido!! Temecula, call in right now!!..."

Also, this is my favorite episode of the season so far. I don't remember there being this many laughing fits amongst everybody before.
If it's been said a hundred times already, it hasn't been said enough. You guys are doing a fucking bang-up job this season.
Best $20 I've ever spent.
