Thread: The Office thread

    Re: The Office thread

Is there ever a holiday that is not a "very big deal" at Dunder Mifflin?

    Re: The Office thread

I wanna see the episode where nothing happens. Like in real life.

    Re: The Office thread

I wanna see the episode where people are merely incompetent at their jobs in a completely un-entertaining way forcing the people who are competent to do extra work and bitch impotently about it without the aid of smirking asides to the camera.

    Re: The Office thread

Decent episode, but I really don't think Jim would have been at all rattled by Dwight's bullshit. Babies are just babies for such a long time. Big deal, make money to feed the damn thing.

I like that they let Kate Flannery be legitimately pretty this week. That was nice.

Hey, was anyone else waiting for Wall-E to roll into the dump scene tonight?

    Some pretty funny lines, though.

Funny lines? Yes. Dump set that couldn't have looked more like a soundstage with a green screen? Absolutely (and a bit distracting when they were throwing things at each other).

    Re: The Office thread

I must have fallen into a daze. Why were Andy and Erin suddenly in that dump? That made no sense to me. (I noticed the CGI soundstage fakery as well.)

    Re: The Office thread

I have NO idea why they were in the dump, come to think of it.

BUT, Andy's facial reactions to where he thought Erin's hot-and-cold game was leading him were re-goddamn-diculously good. My wife and I watched that moment probably half a dozen times. Kudos to Ed Helms for that, it was amazing.

This sums it up for me perfectly. I always like seeing Michael and Dwight together, and their dialogue was great last night...but man that soundstage/green screen work they did looked so fucking digital to me. Did you watch it in HD metal2000? I'm wondering if on a standard def set it would've looked quite so starkly fake?

I watched it in SD. Shittiness confirmed. But it must have been even worse in HD.

    Re: The Office thread

I watched it on my 32"HDTV, and the fake dump was immediately obvious.

The fact that Erin and Andy had their Jim and Pam moment in a dump for no reason at all (barring any deleted scene explaining why they were there) is pretty disappointing. I'm hoping something was mentioned to lead them there - something I missed.

Agreed. The "hot/cold" thing between Andy and Erin was really fun. Ellie and Ed were hilarious there.

    Re: The Office thread

i didn't notice it looked that fake because i was watching a comedy show.

I thought it was a really funny idea for Andy and Erin's "Jim and Pam moment" to be in a dump. But yeah, it would have been better if there was some kind of explanation as to why they were there.

That makes for a nice forum post and all, but the whole concept of the show is the documentary format applied to a very realistic office. They've admittedly fudged that more and more in recent seasons, but if that's your show's concept and you can't execute realistic sets and effects to match it, it's going to stick out.

If you would put the cast of How I Met Your Mother on that same set, there wouldn't be an issue. But for this show, it makes a difference.

    Re: The Office thread

Boy it must've been really fucking fake looking for the rest of us that were also watching a comedy show to take notice of it enough to comment on it.

    Re: The Office thread

Yeah, I didn't really care that the set looked fake, it's just that for a show which has done a mostly great job of looking "realistic" (I mean, they built a full and functional fake office on a soundstage so it would retain realism) it stood out.

And I watched it via my Slingbox on my laptop in a hotel room, so I can only imagine how bad it looked if I was at home watching it in TRUE HD.

But more importantly... Comedy! Jokes! Funny! Humour!
