Thread: Paul F. Tompkins Thread

    Re: Paul F. Tompkins Thread

I tried to read all the posts in this thread since it started all in one sitting. I didn't make it past page 15. I've been enjoying this guy for a while without even knowing who he was. I'm new to this forum and am really getting a lot of great entertainment links. PFK is my current comic obsession.

also, don't be so hard on yourself. making it through 15 pages where you end up being the 1st post on the 16th page is actually pretty good.

For anyone in LA who hasn't been to Dead Authors at the UCB yet, go to the website and make a reservation for the 19th right now. I've been to both of the shows so far, and it's really great. It's hilarious and the money goes to a good cause. And why not stick around for the live taping of WTF right after? I have both times and plan to next week as well. It makes for a great night of comedy for the low price of $13! Also Mr. Tompkins Largo show the following week will be great, or at least it has been every time I've attended. Last time there were surprise appearances by Fabrice Fabrice and Tim Meadows. I'm sure he has some great surprises in store this month as well, seeing as it's his 6th/8th anniversary show.

I made a thread in the Austin sub-forum, but I think it belongs here, too. After way too long, Paul F. Tompkins is finally coming back to Austin for two shows on Saturday, June 5. Tickets for the 8PM show can be purchased here:

and tickets for the 10PM show can be purchased here:

Hey if you're in the Bay Area and would come to see PFT perform AND you are on Facebook AND you don't mind joining Facebook groups, why not join the "I Wanna See Paul F. Tompkins in San Francisco!" group? It's only got 86 people in it so far - crazy stuff! There have to be 300 people who would pay good money to see him here live, so let's do this.

I hate to be the latest iteration of a broken record in this thread, but I am in a constant state of nearly shitting my pants with excitement in anticipation of the Pod F. Tompkast. If March comes and goes without its debut, I will surely take my own life rather than shoulder the disappointment.

The Tompkins 300 is working: PFT has updated his blog on 3/16 to report on the status of the initiative he created to take control of his live performances.

"Memphis, Halifax, Dallas, Seattle, Madison and Austin join Toronto in summoning me by the holy rules of the internet. Boston, Minneapolis, Chicago and my ancestral homeland, Philadelphia have also hit the magic number. Venues and dates are being explored and wrestled with!

Other cities that are closing in on 300 members include St. Louis, New Orleans, and the sleepy little hamlet of New York City."

I am the organizer of the "Bring Paul F. Tompkins to New York City" Facebook group. If you are in the NYC area and a PFT fan and a member or lurker of this board, please sign up if you haven't already. We are getting close (228 as I write), but for New York City, come on: We can do better. This thing should have hit the magic number by now. St. Louis hit 300 on Wednesday after a concerted push. If you have signed up, as I know many of you have, thank you, and please recruit a friend to join us. This is going to be a lot of fun.

I'm surprised no one else has said it yet, and maybe it's because I had never seen the show before, but last night's Anniversary Show was amazing. I can honestly tell you that my friend had to make use of his inhaler during the show. That is how intense the show was!

Absolutely worth the 550 mile drive. Without a doubt.

I havent had a chance to upload and edit photos from last night, but it was an absolute blast. I'll eventually recap the show later tonight on the Paul F. Tompkins Show Depository Thread.

In the meantime here is a screencap of our performers for the night.
special guests being david gruber allen, ed helms, ted leo, paul scheer, rob huebel, and weird al yankovic, who accompanied PFT in a the Killers "All The Things That I've Done".

Well, the show opened with The Killers "All the Things That I've Done," but all the guests accompanied PFT for two Pogues songs (which I'm spacing on). ...just to clarify.

    PFTompkins

@Cameron462 That was recorded a few years ago. The recording wasn't great. The material ended up on Freak Wharf and the upcoming special.
I don't know how long this recording has been floating around, but it's out here on the interwebs now. And it's really fantastic. And the "Go Ask Alice" bit is the only one that's on Freak Wharf too, so listening to it might hinder your initial enjoyment/surprise of the DVD (though one bit was on the CDR album as well).

I know one of the songs was Tuesday Morning. I can't recall what the other song was, but needless to say, it was AWESOME.
