TAX MEN (FOX) - Kerri Kenney ("Reno 911") has scored a role on the pilot, a workplace comedy set at an IRS office in Fresno, California. She's on board as Bethany, the office's human resources representative. Kenney joins the previously cast David Krumholtz and Judy Greer in the half-hour, which Fred Savage is directing from a script by Brent Forrester. 20th Century Fox Television is the studio.

UNTITLED JAMIE FOXX PROJECT (FOX, New!) - Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx is once again trying to mount a sketch comedy series, this time at FOX. "MadTV" creators Fax Bahr and Adam Small are shepherding the project, which is set up at Tantamount and Fox Television Studios. The network has ordered a pilot with "Wild 'N Out" alum Affion Crockett already attached as one of the stars. Crockett had previously been working with Tantamount on a separate project, which was subsequently merged with Foxx's. Foxx, Small, Bahr, Eric Tannenbaum and Kim Tannenbaum then are executive producing alongside Foxx King Entertainment's Marcus King and Jaime Rucker King with Carl Jones ("The Boondocks") serving as a co-executive producer and Crockett producing. Small, Bahr, Jones and Crockett are the writers. Foxx has previously set up sketch comedies at FX, MTV, The WB and TBS, none of which made it past the pilot stage.

    Some other tidbits:

.Martin Short is playing the role of the boss in "Tax Man" (Brent Forrester/Ron Howard pilot)
.Mike Scully is an executive producer on "Nolan Knows Best" (He's also been working on "Parks and Recreation" this season)
. Joe Nunez is playing the role of Will Arnett's best friend in "Wilde Kingdom" (You may know him as "Floor Buffing Guy" in The Forty Year Old Virgin, or the liquor store clerk in "Superbad"; recently he was the cook on "Players")

TAX MAN (FOX)- Orlando Jones ("Rules of Engagement") has scored a role on the comedy pilot, about an Internal Revenue Service district office in Fresno, California. He's believed to be playing Fisher, a co-worker who always has Spencer's (David Krumholtz) back. Brent Forrester is behind the 20th Century Fox Television-based half-hour, which also stars Judy Greer, Kerri Kenney and Randall Park. Fred Savage is the director.

Late on this, but thanks for the link to that site. We're spending a couple of days in Burbank in early May with uncommitted days. I'll keep that bookmarked to see if anything cool pops up.

TEAM SPITZ (CBS) - Jonathan Slavin is the fourth "Better Off Ted" co-star to land a pilot, in this case a multi-camera comedy about Jeff Spitz (Rob Riggle), a bombastic high school football coach. He'll play Ken Oberdorffer ("mid-thirties, slight, outwardly bookish but fiercely passionate"), the head of the school's arts education who's always losing funding to Spitz and the athletic department. Slavin's casting is in second position to "Ted," which is considered a longshot at best to return. Bob Odenkirk also stars in the project, which Ted Wass is directing from a script by Bill Martin and Mike Schiff. CBS Television Studios and Sony Pictures Television are co-producing.

Edit: Also, a longer description of "Nolan Knows Best":

A new comedy for ABC starring Dana Gould, Brian Dennehy, Traylor Howard, Todd Stashwick, Lexi Jourden and Payton Lucas.

When your dad is a legend in your town, it can be hard to get out from under his shadow. When your dad moves in to the apartment over your garage... forget about it!

All his life, Dana Nolan knew his dad Phil loved his older brother Stan more. No matter what Dana did, he never quite seemed to measure up to his dad's old-school values. Obviously, he couldn't be the best son, so instead, Dana decided to be the best husband and dad he could possibly be. Now, Dana has the chance to get a little closer to his dad. After bailing Stan out of yet another jam, Phil is moving in to the spare apartment above Dana's garage. Just great. You see, to Dana's adorable daughters, Phil is their lovable grandpa. And at the high school where Dana works as a guidance counselor, Phil is the legendary 'Coach Phil' who still shows up every day to give the team a pep-talk. But to the long-suffering Dana... he's just the same old critical dad he's always known and grudgingly loves.

Luckily, Dana has his wife Julie to keep him grounded, but as a full-time anesthesiologist she's got her own problems like being judged by other school moms who only work part-time. Dana's smart enough to know he's got to make the best of his dad situation, but it's going to take time... a whole lot of time.

Comedian Dana Gould takes a page from his own life and lets us all laugh at the thousand small humiliations he's suffered from his dad. Nolan Knows Best is a family comedy about trying to get out from under your dad's shadow, while attempting to live up to his high expectations.

    Re: Pilot Season 2010-2011

The pilot for TV Land, Retired at 35, has been picked up. From Deadline Hollywood:

TV Land has picked up the pilot Retired at 35 to series. The multicamera sitcom starring George Segal and Johnathan McClain has received a nine-episode order in addition to the pilot for a launch in the first quarter of 2011. Retired follows David (McClain), a successful young businessman who decides to leave the New York rat race behind and move into his father Alan's (Segal) Florida retirement home. Co-starring on the show are Saturday Night Live alums Casey Wilson and Christine Ebersole, Jessica Walter, Josh McDermitt, Ryan Michelle Bathe, Matt Champagne, George Wyner, Jere Burns and Faye DeWitt. Retired hails from Reba alums Chris Case, Michael Hanel and Mindy Schultheis who are executive producing the new series. Case wrote the pilot script.

With the series order for Retired, TV Land is going two-for-two in its maiden scripted development cycle. For its first foray into original scripted series, the cable channel ordered two multiamera pilots, Retired and Hot in Cleveland, which was picked up to series last month for a summer premiere. Cleveland stars Segal’s Just Shoot Me cohort Wendie Malick as well as Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Betty White. The two new series are targeted for the network's primetime block TV Land Prime.
I don't know what effect this has on Casey's other pilot for ABC, "Happy Endings" (costarring Damon Wayans Jr.)

I've heard her part on this is smaller than we would expect and that it wouldn't interfere with the other pilot.

Congrats to AST-approved funny man Josh McDermitt! Hope he turns up on the Pardcast soon!

    Re: Pilot Season 2010-2011

Deadline Hollywood just did a piece on "The Hot List", which are the most "buzzed" about pilots at this stage.

    Highlights:

WILDE’S KINGDOM: Will Arnett who is starring reportedly killed at the table read of this single-camera comedy.

KEEP HOPE ALIVE: After a couple of casting tweaks, the new Greg Garcia comedy looks strong.

MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED: The ensemble comedy may live up to its name with positive buzz.

SECURITY (formerly Untitled Adam Goldberg): Third time could be the charm for Christian Slater who stars in this talked-about comedy set at a digital-security firm.

NEXT: Paul Reiser’s semi-autobigraphical comedy also is heating up in the filming stage. (I won't go for the easy Mad About You one-liner.)

OUTSOURCED, PERFECT COUPLES: Both have supporters at NBC.

UNTITLED BAYS/THOMAS COMEDY: Great auspices (How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays, Craig Thomas. And great table read (Everyone loved Kyle Bornheimer and Jaime Pressly).

WRIGHT VS. WRONG: Early frontrunner on the comedy side based on a well-received script by Stephanie Weir and a solid table read. Very strong cast, too, led by Debra Messing.

I'm sad to not see The Strip listed, as that's my second most anticipated show behind Wilde Kingdom. I hope that's just because it just finished filming, and the pilot hasn't been screened yet. Beach Lane is probably too soon to tell as well, due to the casting problems.

The Strip (the cut they have for it at least) was finished yesterday at this time. so far, i think Tom, Ben, and 2 UCB crowds have seen it.

(if that shouldn't be posted, i'll gladly take it down)

Beach Lane i believe films next week, either the 21st or 22nd.

Anyone hear any news about a pilot ABC picked up called Happy Endings? I had read the script a bit back, and it was really funny.

    Re: Pilot Season 2010-2011

New York Times article about sitcoms being "back" this season

On studio lots, where dozens of new shows are being fretted about and fought over ahead of the networks’ scheduling decisions in May, the number of sitcoms in development has spiked. “I think we’re on the cusp of a bull market for comedy,” said Kevin Reilly, Fox’s entertainment chief, whose No. 1 priority for the fall is adding more live-action comedies to his schedule.
Ms. Bromstad (president for prime-time entertainment at NBC) said NBC hopes its spring pilots are sufficiently promising that it can schedule a second night of sitcoms in the fall. NBC’s slate includes pilots starring Matthew Broderick, Katharine McPhee and Adam Carolla.

Of all the networks, Fox has had the hardest time with sitcoms this season, canceling two so far. “We’re going to recommit” to sitcoms next season, Mr. Reilly said, with 10 live-action ones in development, up from 6 last season. They include “Wilde’s Kingdom,” whose writers include the creator of “Arrested Development,” about a love-hate relationship between characters played by Will Arnett and Keri Russell.

    Re: Pilot Season 2010-2011

Deadline.com's second rundown of hot/not pilots is out. Highlights:

KEEP HOPE ALIVE: Greg Garcia’s new comedy is a go.

WILDE KINGDOM & SECURITY: Both look good on the strength of the performances of their stars, Will Arnett and Christian Slater. Wilde has not been seen by Fox yet.

THE ADAM CAROLLA SHOW: Actually, doesn’t look too bad, according to people who've seen it.

BEACH LANE: After a major recasting, with Nick Thune replacing Patton Oswalt, and the negative buzz that created, this Matthew Broderick starrer had a decent run-through.

BLEEP MY DAD SAID: The Twitter transplant starring William Shatner also looks very good and had a great testing.

Nothing on The Strip or Nolan Knows Best, and as one commenter pointed out, a lot of shows that were on the "Not" list last year ended up getting picked up.
