Thread: Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien

Re: Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien

Wasn't quite sure where to post this, but are there any good clips of the old school Jay Leno? When he was respectable and funny?

I've heard about it, I just haven't seen evidence of it.

(I mean doing stand up before television, him on Letterman/Carson, whatever.)
    I'm a MAN, dammit!

Search YouTube for Leno on Letterman and there's plenty of stuff.

    Classic Leno:

    Winter is Coming: Summer 2011.

That's really great, tight, comedy-writing right there. Leno still sucks.

So strange thinking Letterman and Leno used to write material for Jimmie Walker. Forget doing The Late Shift 2, someone do a prequel covering those days.

I'm enjoying these re-runs while I can. Is there anywhere to find an archive of Conan's old "Late Night" episodes? I couldn't find any, and I fear the same will happen to these "Tonight Show" episodes.

Darryl's latest obvious trivia made me think, (and I'm sorry if this has been covered); has anyone seen any of the Leno stand-up? The stand-up in which he makes the money he actually spends?

Is he like old Leno, or that pandering asshole we see on television? I'm not willing to give any denim money to find out.

I wish I had episodes of Late Night, but I did find a torrent of every single Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien episode, now residing illegally on my hard drive. I hope that in a couple years, this will be something I'm very glad I downloaded. Actually, probably sooner than that!

Comedy messageboard user "nadsat droog," this was really pointlessly rude in a way I hate to encounter on the internet and I apologize. Basically my thing was that the entire 'universally-appealing' lineup of Conan's last couple weeks consisted of white males aged 24-55 and sorry to pointlessly inject identity politics into a discussion of important things like Headlines vs. Actual Items but. Now in truth that may in fact just about lock up the "everyone" demographic so far as advertisers are concerned, but on the other hand it's almost like the entire late night talk show genus is set to die off in the face of a new world like so many diabetic Baby Boomers.

FOX is considering a four night a week show for Conan on the FX network, with a weekend version on FOX.

"Preliminary talks between Fox and O'Brien's representatives have taken place, but more serious discussions are expected to happen over the next six weeks".

Re: Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien

I don't know if I like the weekend part, but four nights a week wouldn't be bad. He could develop a new sitcom or something for Friday nights and tap someone to have a show after him to compete with Ferguson and Fallon and Fox could build their late night line-up on FX, which I think pretty much everyone in the country gets. It would certainly fit in with IASIP, Archer and The League and the other stuff FX is trying to build.

Re: Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien

"Over time, it could become a nightly show on the network." I'm somewhat confused by this. Does Fox really not have that much confidence in Conan that they need to have this four night on cable and weekend show-trial plan? Am I misinterpreting this?

Re: Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien

Maybe they're just trying to avoid pissing off affiliates -- this way, they can take their time and let it grow on cable, and if it succeeds the affiliates won't need to be convinced that it would be better than Friends reruns. Meanwhile, all you crazy kids will continue to watch it on the Internet, so where it airs won't matter.
