Thread: Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien

Re: Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien

Thanks, crimestick. I'm glad you liked that ridiculously stupid Dumbledore bit. A guest at that hotel, The Standard, actually called the front desk to complain that "a crazy drunk man dressed as a wizard just jumped into the pool". I'm sorry I disturbed her so much.

    sparkiepop,
Thanks for posting that video of Andy and Conan apartment hunting. That's one of my favorites.

    pimpbot,
I'd be surprised if Actual Items comes back anytime soon. It was always one of our favorite bits to write, but I think we all got a little burnt-out on it.

    Mike,
Couldn't agree more about how great it was having Mr. Galifianakis on the show. I think he's one of the funniest guys in the world, and he's such a nice guy, too.

I was happy to find out today that Charlyne Yi has been booked on our show for next Monday, the 3rd. I've never met her, but I think she's very funny.

Man, don't I feel silly now. I'm being all complain-y and then Brian Stack posts five minutes later. I'm pretty fail. I do love the show a lot, though, that's not a thing.

    hellyesbrandon,
Thanks to you, too. I'm glad you liked the Dumbledore bit. By the way, that was Andres DuBouchet's concept. I had a lot of fun bouncing around ideas with him for it, and I really enjoyed running around like a drunk, self-important Hollywood douchebag for an hour or two.
I think you have some valid criticisms of the show, by the way. We've been trying to find the right balance between what we really like ourselves and what we think will actually work with the audience. Some nights, I feel like we've really succeeded at that, but I know there will be some nights when we fail miserably.
I think there are some good bits in tonight's show. I hope you like 'em if you watch.

That Heidi Klum interview made me laugh harder than anything I've seen on the new show so far, and I've laughed a ton.

I picture Pardo hanging out in the green room with Chicago. "Hey guys can I please play wood block or triangle?"

Are you kidding me? After the infamous Rainbow Bridge/Chicago feud of '84??! (which ultimately led to Cetera leaving the band)
What would you like to see at the end of every one of my posts?

Thanks for the quick response, Brian. I'm disappointed not to see "Actual Items" anytime soon but I understand. Anyway, really enjoying the show.

I picture him more in Pat Francis mode.

"Eh..eh...excuse me, uh, Mr. Pankow, will you sign my copy of the Stone of Sisysphus?"

I didn't see it, but I can pretty much disagree based on your statement alone.

Did anyone catch last night's episode with Deon Cole as the guest comedian? You'd think someone getting an opportunity like that would prepare enough to not have to take up notes with them. That was ridiculous.

Re: Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien

i thought that was a notebook as i tivo'd through it.

I thought he was funny and that the notebook was mainly a prop, not sure if he even needed it at all for notes
"(inaudible) I've seen, basically, all of those at this point."

Yeah I didn't really watch him but I did notice that he had a notebook. I figured it must be a part of his act, somehow.

Re: Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien

Osquip - please, PLEASE tell me you're kidding about the notebook. I'd hate to think there was someone out there that doesn't get it to this extent.

  18. #758

Re: Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien

I guess I didn't get it. Would you please explain what I didn't get?

  19. #759

Re: Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien

If you watched his set, he acknowledged the notebook was for the bit. He didn't "need" it, in the sense that it was a crutch; he needed it because it was a prop, used throughout the set. When he would go to the notebook, it was always exaggerated - he did it to be silly. And I thought he killed it.

Now that I think about it, I came on like a dick with my initial post. I had never seen Deon before and I was excited to see if people enjoyed his set as much as I did, then disappointed to see people taking him to task for something that was so obviously part of the act. I overreacted, sorry about that.

Osquip, did you actually watch it or just speed by on tivo or something?

He was WRITING in the notebook. How would someone who's unprepared benefit by writing stuff down?
