His jokes were yuck
He was ok. I wish he would have talked about weed and comic books more though.
"This is not the Beach Boys. It can't be. Why? No beach songs! I thought it was some kind of joke. All 'Pet Sounds' offers is the opportunity to hear Brian Wilson whine for forty minutes, backed by elevator music. There's barely any Mike Love on the album at all."
I like how he snubbed Patton and John after the performance.
They didn't seem that interested in talking to him either.
It appears comedian Deon Cole, best known for his controversial use of a notebook during his set on The Tonight Show, has been hired as a writer for the show.

I'm so glad Andy Richter is back on the show. He's at least as funny as Conan, and he's such a perfect little sidekick. I can imagine him riding a little burro behind Conan.![]()
This isn't SlashFic. Save it for 'Comedian Dreams.'
"(inaudible) I've seen, basically, all of those at this point."

So yeah, I posted this in the wrong thread originally, but Conan's and Leno's ratings are both apparently really bad. I, like everyone here, hope for a Conan victory, but I wonder what will happen. Leno supposedly said that he'd love to back to the Tonight Show. I find the late night wars fascinating. I wonder if anyone has any predictions now that both Conan and Leno have had some time and the ratings have been shown.
It doesn't seem likely that there will be a positive outcome for Conan, to me at least. I don't know if NBC would just get rid of Leno and keep Conan in that spot. Would anyone else take Conan at this point if NBC put Leno back? Comedy Central perhaps?
It would be a huge slap in the face to Conan if they were to give the Tonight Show back to Jay at this point. It really depresses me that people apparently would rather watch Letterman (especially now) than Conan. How many people above the age of 35 are watching TV at 11:30 at night anyway? Is that demographic really that powerful enough to make Letterman's ratings better than Conan's?
I was already really starting to dislike Letterman lately, and recent events have made it so that I don't even want to watch his show even when someone I want to see is on there.
I've watched Jay's show a few times now, and it's not great, but it's certainly watchable. It's harmless. It's mostly a promotional show- I actually kind of like the "Ten at 10" segment, it's a nice alternative to the usual interview. The "Green Car Challenge" is pretty stupid, but it's different enough from all the other talk shows that I don't begrudge the fact that the show exists.

Leno returning to the Tonight Show has been the stuff of my nightmares for a while now. Does this seem like something that actually has the possibility of happening? I wouldn't think so, at least for a little while, as I assume Conan is under contract for a few years (though I don't know how many). Granted, they could douche out and let him go, but it seems like the big push they gave him initially, and the new studio, would all have just been a huge waste of time and money. It seems like any other network would kill to have him, too.
Stupid Jay Leno!
Sidenote: My friend's Mom is scared of Conan because he "jumps around too much! Why can't he just stay still?"
things are iffy.
You're all neglecting the reality where Leno returns and he and Conan co-host, becoming the world's most awkward comedy duo.
'Poor' Andy returns to making great shows that don't last long enough on TV.

But Conan's ratings loss to Letterman isn't a reflection of the Tonight Show running poorly, but more indicative of how Leno's show is killing the network. NBC must cut the dead weight Leno brings, put scripted TV back at 10 and watch ratings improve across the board.
Your theory is flawed; Conan's ratings were dropping before Leno came back on the air.
Also, Leno is -- intentionally or not* -- siphoning guests away from the Tonight Show. As a network, NBC now has twice as many talk show guests on the air per-night, and Leno seems to be getting the bigger ones most nights. If they got rid of the Leno show and let Conan have those guests, his ratings would go up (not just because of the guests, but also because he wouldn't lose viewers to people who just want to watch one talk show per night, and Leno comes on first).
I really don't see how the Leno thing can last -- prime time is too important to waste on a low-rated show that, cheap as it is to produce, drags the marquee late-night franchise (not to mention the quality of the network) down with it. It always felt like a short-term solution to a few temporary problems (bad overall ratings for NBC, angry Leno fans, angry Leno, no good dramas to stick at 10pm anyway). Once the dust settles (which is already has to some extent), they can justifiably cancel Leno and get some real TV shows back on the air.

Isos covers most of it but I did want to add that while I knew Conan was slipping in ratings he was carrying the younger demographic until recently and, like Brasky, I was surprised to hear he's losing it to Letterman. Maybe I am looking to blame Leno because I hate how NBC rolled over and gave him a prime time show, but it would be impossible to argue in favor of so much late night dilution on one network.
