Thread: Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien

Re: Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien

They should just do what you suggested initially and have Leno on once a week, on Thursdays. The only times I've ever bothered to watch his show have usually been on Thursdays, since it follows 2 hours of shows I watch and I just leave it on NBC afterwards.
That way, Leno would be able to stay on the air (if it's really that important to him) and they could program dramas on the other weeknights.

But then Conan's on TV five times more than Jay, and THAT CAN'T HAPPEN!

Wow. I know I've been spiteful about The Bravery in the past, but what the fuck, man? The outfits, the hairdos - the singing? My man needs to take more lessons. Jesus.

This is only vaguely Tonight Show related, but I don't know where else to post it:

Is that Brian Stack doing the voice over for the "Bizarre Foods Minnesota" commercials on the Travel Channel?
    things are iffy.

Did you guys catch Harland Williams last night? He killed it on Conan, and Half Baked is one of my favorite movies...

    aenemaTron,
I couldn't agree more about The Bravery. I watched that performance with my jaw hanging open. The only more cringe-worthy performance I can remember from the show came courtesy of Secondhand Serenade, doing "Fall For You", a song that makes me want to slash at my own face and neck with a broken jam jar.

    hellyesbrandon,
I thought Harland Williams was hilarious last night, too. I always look forward to his appearances on the show.
You have good ears, sir. That is indeed me doing those "Bizarre Foods" promos on Travel Channel. I've really enjoyed working with those people for five to ten minutes a week.

Harland Williams AND the Pixies last night. So great.

    Taco,
I was just as happy as you that The Pixies were on, but it made me feel old when Conan said that the band was celebrating the 20th Anniversary of "Doolittle". I remember that album coming out as if it were yesterday.

I couldn't have been more excited to hear Harland Williams and the Pixies were on (both were great) then I heard the Pixies were touring again and I got more excited, then I learned that tickets are like 60 dollars and I got sad. But then I remembered I had a french bread pizza in the oven and everything was ok.

edit: I just saw the clip of the Bravery on Conan...wow. Its hard to believe that band is this same band:

I think the lead singer needs to put down the guitar maybe.

I just read about a special show in MPLS to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Replacements "Let It Be". Oy...

    Diggity,
The Replacements' "Let It Be" is probably my all-time favorite album if I had to pick one. It sure doesn't sound 25 years old to me.

Heh, listening to Tim by the Replacements as I read that.

The Pixies were great, I enjoyed every bit of Conan this week, well except for the Bravery.

True...unlike a lot of 80's stuff ( including even some of the Mats records ).

    Me!,
I love "Tim", too. I heard once it was named after Tim the Enchanter in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", but maybe that's just wishful thinking from some Python/Mats nerd like myself.
I think the songs on "Tim" are some of Westerberg's best, but I can see why he was a little dissatisfied with the muddy-sounding production on some of them.
Here's a very raw bootleg video of the Mats doing "Bastards of Young" in concert a couple years after "Tim" came out:

And here's Mr. Westerberg doing "Left of the Dial", one of my favorite Mats songs, also from "Tim", live on one of his solo tours:

Sorry to take this thread off on a Replacements tangent. I'll leave it at that.

Pixies were great. There sure are a lot of country artists on lately, though, huh? Maybe it's me.

That bodybuilder looked scary, and like he was about to topple forward and smash through the floor.

Yeah that video of Bastards of Young rules it. Such a fun performance.

It seems like I'll enjoy every other musical act on The Tonight Show. One night it'll stink, the next night I'll watch the music and not turn the channel/fast forward on my dvr.

I know what you mean, Me!, about some of the musical acts being less-than-super, sometimes even less-than-horrible, but let me assure you, tonight's John Fogerty performance of "Born On the Bayou" will not disappoint. I don't know how, but he still sounds (and looks) almost exactly like he did in this Creedence clip from 40 years ago:

Man, Super Dave was hilarious on Conan. Is he normally that funny? I gotta say I never payed much attention to his work, but I think he really killed in on todays episode. Save for his letterman cheap shot.
