Yeah, that was one of the first things I noticed about the new show that irked me. Why bother bringing Andy back if he's going to just be this show's version of Stuttering John? You're right that their chemistry is so great that it would only make sense to capitalize on that.

Interesting side note: Howard Stern is running his "History of Howard Stern Act 3" special all this last couple of weeks, and he played a clip of Conan's first interview on the show. And I had forgotten how close Conan was to being canned the first year or so of his run on Late Night. It gave me hope hearing them all crack jokes about his impending doom, knowing now that he ended up excelling and ultimately getting the new gig. So I'm not about to do a Coco Count-Out just yet.

You should watch his Charlie Rose interviews. It's astounding to watch him change over the years through the interviews.

You don't give someone the mantle of "The Tonight Show" and take it away from them 7 months later. They didn't select Jay to take over from Johnny, and when his ratings weren't working out, kick Jay out the door and go "Oh well, it was a nice experiment". What the hell? If Jay wants his old show back, he can be on at 12:30, AFTER Conan, and it can be called "The Jay Leno Show". What an embarassment for NBC, "The Tonight Show", and Conan for wanting to achieve something in his career.

They DID make an offer to Letterman that involved yanking Leno off the air less than a year after he got the show, he just didn't take the deal.

I love the NBC quote:

So basically, the show sucks, the ratings are awful, and the affiliates are steaming mad, which is EXACTLY as we had anticipated. Nice work, NBC!!
