How do they even promote the new lineup? "Jay's back! And the other guy is here too, just a little later! Everyone's happy!"
I can't believe they found a way to top how they fucked over Letterman so many years ago. I kind of hope Conan find opportunities for him and his staff outside of this network so he doesn't have to take this humiliating "offer".

Garrett Gonzalez Morris (born February 1, 1937) is an American comedian and actor from New Orleans, Louisiana. He was part of the original cast of the sketch comedy program Saturday Night Live, appearing from 1975 to 1980
For the British flautist, see Gareth Morris.
If I were Conan, I would refuse any scenario wherein I'm not still the host of the Tonight Show. I guess letting Leno do his crappy schtick for half an hour before The Tonight Show wouldn't be so bad, but a really selfish part of me hopes Conan walks and goes to Fox.
Let's talk about class, and who has it. Leno goes off on the network in his monologue like he's got zero blame in all of this, looking for sympathy from his audience. Conan doesn't even mention the ordeal, taking the don't shit where you eat approach. I wish fans of Leno were properly exposed to his meddling.
I don't think Conan should take 12.
What NBC is doing is bullshit, he knows it, we all know it, and he shouldn't stand for it.
His career would hardly be over. However, the question now is: what other venue would have him? Leno joked about FOX in his monologue, I guess that would be an option and a less fucktarded network, but I don't know if Conan would quite fit after American Idol. ABC would probably be the best option, what with their comedy star on the rise with Modern Family, but they don't seem to want to axe Nightline (and it still does reasonably well, right?) Plus, Jimmy Kimmel's worked a fair niche for himself in the late-night market, how would this effect him? He could go cable, but talk shows are really hard to make work on there. Chelsea Lately is the only one I can think of that has proven to have real staying power. HBO would be awesome, it would be weird to hear guests swearing (I don't even think Conan himself would do it much). However, I don't think HBO would cop for a nightly show, maybe a weekly, but then he's infringing on my man Bill Maher's territory. Also, I don't know how I feel about Conan in a weekly format as opposed to a nightly. It would significantly change the show, who knows, maybe for the better.
SPECULATION! CONJECTURE! HOORAY!
EDIT: I just figured out the best option. Dave's got to retire soon, and his final "Fuck You" to NBC could be turning his show over to Conan.
Night gathers, and now my snark begins. It shall not end until it gets hacky. I shall take my wife(... please!), hold no lands, father no negative ratings. I shall wear no crowns and win no AST Top 20 Rankings. I shall live and die by my posts. I am the LOL in the darkness. I am the fire that burns against the trolls, the sneer that guards the realms of men from Kyle Cease's Comedy Boot Camp. I pledge my life and honor to the AST's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.
If you look at it from Conan's side, he's the boss. His decision affects an entire staff of people who are relying on him for their jobs. (Of course they can find other work, but still). If he walks, he's essentially laid off a staff of talented and devoted people who uprooted themselves from New York to ride this train to hell. I think Conan will take the new time slot just to keep the show going. The media is stating that Fox is not interested in taking him on anymore, nor is ABC.
I also noticed that Leno made cracks about the situation, while Conan said nothing. Conan saying nothing makes me respect him even more.
I would love it if a guest went on his show and called him on his bullshit. Can Pardo get Hamm to do it?

I hope Conan takes the offer because I don't think Fox will make an offer.
Conan puts on a great show and there is some audience but he's not historically been a ratings winner. I think the awful way that NBC handled this whole situation would be legitimate if Conan had been destroying Ferguson at 12:30, but his ratings at 12:30 were about the same and sometimes worse than Ferguson. And its not necessarily a slam dunk that he's going to beat Kimmel at 12. I think Conan makes the best show, but I don't think he's standing in a very strong spot.
Another thing is that with Late Night, they gave Conan several years to find his footing without much interference. And he found it and thrived at it. This is seven months with a lot of interference.

My wife & I were joking about this last nite. It'd be hilarious.
This whole thing just feels so weird - as Matt mentioned a couple pages back, he's given them good numbers in the only demo NBC claims they care about. The guy's lowered the median age of the "Tonight Show" viewer by a DECADE, for Chrissakes. That just doesn't happen everyday. They should be kissing his fucking feet.
I thought this was interesting about Jeff Zucker:
Zucker went on to Harvard University, serving as President of the school newspaper, The Harvard Crimson, during his senior year. As President of the Crimson, Zucker encouraged the decades-old rivalry with the Harvard Lampoon, headed by future NBC colleague Conan O'Brien.

This is exactly the truth. NBC's strategy has been to produce cheap shows, mostly reality shows, in place of more expensive dramas. The ratings are lower, but the profit margins are higher... at least this is what my old boss told me.
Also, Leno has zero class last night. Why would NBC honor his contract when his show is doing so poorly that every single affiliate is pissed? He's an asshole and obviously doesn't see himself as the problem.
Yeah, that's what pisses me off more than anything. NBC are huge assholes for being loyal to Jay over Conan. It's unspeakably shitty to completely undermine Conan just a half of a year after he started. Oh his show wasn't immediately successful? Even after NBC tried an incredibly risky move that proved a collosal failure? Yeah, let's punish Conan for it, that makes perfect sense. Jay's being a dick about this and should be cut from the network, plain and simple. He's damaged goods now and if he gets picked up by another network, he won't necessarily be number one. And so what if he is, even? At that point, there will be so many players in the late night game (if he goes to FOX at 11:30 or 12, it will mean FOUR different late night shows on at the same time) that it wouldn't be much of an advantage. If anything, he'll probably split the older market with Dave, leaving Conan to have an even firmer lock on the 18-49 market.
Christ, why am I not an NBC executive? I feel like a 12 year old with Downs syndrome would do a better job than these fucks.

If late night history is anything to go by, Conan just needs to get Ben Silverman or Jeff Zucker on the show and ask "What the hell were you thinking?" Trumpets will blare and his ratings will skyrocket.
Who else thinks it would be perfect to have Jay go to Fox? Like stated above, it just seems kind of perverse to see American Idol as lead-in to Conan. I think a vacuous reality show would be a great lead-in for our buddy Jay.
Also, has Letterman weighed in on this yet? I know he has always been outspoken in his objection towards Leno, and has been kinda-sorta pro Conan. I'm just foaming at the mouth at the prospect of Letterman delivering a verbal smackdown on his show in a few days.
