Well, I do like spicy and I did remove most of the membrane and seeds and they were fairly small but next time I'd dial it back a bit.

Ever since that episode of Bourdain aired, I've been expressly forbidden, under penalty of divorce, from going near that sandwich.

Someday I will ask you to explain it to me, bite by bite...

I am in your debt, sir.

Yo, people best not try and step to crlygrl about crabs. You haven't had a crab until you've had a Maryland crab.

    I will cut a bitch.

Man, now I want a crab cake from Faidley's in Lexington Market real bad.

You're asking people who are mostly entering a food coma.

    Make ratatouille and salmon.

Harry you should have what I had: Turkey breast, turkey wings, sausage stuffing, vegetable stuffing, sweet potatoes stuffed into apples, sweet potatoes topped with marshmallows, twice-baked regular potatoes, Brussels sprouts with pine nuts, salad, green beans with shallots, butter rolls, ham, artichoke dip, cranberry sauce, cheesecake brownies, lemon pie, chocolate chip cookies, and about four glasses of wine. And coffee.

    I think I might die.

Re: Can I interest anyone in some FOOD?

I made Thanksgiving dinner for the first time. Beer cheese spread, spiced nuts, roast turkey w/ gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed rutabagas, braised brussels sprouts, pumpkin pie. In-laws brought the sweet and mashed potatoes. It was pretty crazy, I almost went nuts in the first hour and snapped at some people like a dick, but things smoothed out and I had a cocktail and a couple beers and now I still feel so stuffed it's not so good.

The biggest disappointment was the gravy, I made it in advance using browned turkey neck and chicken trimmings (had a whole one in the fridge & kosher turkeys done have giblets- or this one didn't, anyway, but I think it's part of the cleanliness rules) with onions to reinforce stock, thickened with a roux, to which you add drippings when the turkey's done. Problem was, what poured out of the pan was 98% fat and my shitty flat-bottomed whisk didn't really deglaze the trimmings pot properly in the first place. If I had to do it over with, I'd brown the trimmings better and deglaze the roasting pan (in addition to the pot w/ browned trimming) before I did the roux while the turkey rested.

Whew, sorry about that. The kosher turkey, brushed all over with butter and flipped halfway through, was amazing. I realized at the last second that I didn't have a V rack so I slid a cooling rack between the pan handles and that was fine. My favorite part of the turkey? Getting to pick at the carcass while I carve: oysters, tail, and also I like the wing.

Smoked Turkey is really, really great. Never had it before, but will definitely have it again. We ordered it ahead of time, it showed up on Tuesday, required no prep at all. Just cut and eat. Juicy, smokey deliciousness.

Started off with a tapenade of kalamata olives, figs, capers and walnuts served with crackers, brie, and goat cheeses. Then the mains; Turkey, chipotle cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green beans, sausage and cornbread dressing. Apple, pumpkin pies and pumpkin brownies with vanilla ice cream for dessert.

    So good.

EDIT: Forgot about two things. The sweet potatoes were cooked in butter and Gentleman Jack bourbon. Also, there were balsamic pearl onions.

I made some chipotle cranberry sauce for thanksgiving. It turned out pretty good. It's a good mix of flavors from two very different climes.

Our refrigerator went up and now we have to throw away almost all our food. This includes my 10lb post-thanksgiving turkey that hadn't been cooked yet. Boooooooo.

Ummm it's tainted food. Cuz, you know, it sat in a warm fridge for 24 hours. I like homeless people more than that... we cooked what we could and ate it and are keeping some on the porch, but the meat is done.

This creamcheese brownie recipe is my new fail-safe crowd pleaser. I have this cocoa from King Arthur Flour, and it makes them extra special. (It's so dark it almost looks purple in the package!)

Plus, even if you don't bake, you can make brownies from scratch. The high fat content makes them pretty tough to mess up. Not a lot of super-sensitive measurements, etc.

I got a $19 crock pot on black Friday at Target. Made use of it for the first time yesterday making a delicious stew. Can't really fuck it up and you can put whatever you want in it. Stew!

I bought pickled mangoes on a whim. Can I do something with it, or have I made yet another mistake in life?
