No but seriously, they are a good addition, I promise you. Especially the tarragon, which I only used because I was out of dried cilantro flakes.

crlygrl: That's cool, we can still be friends, I just have a weird gag reflex that is triggered by certain food textures and can't really eat onions or peppers because of it. I'm slowly but surely working towards de-sensitizing myself to them but it's kind of a hard thing to break yourself of. I tried to compensate with the buttload of onion powder in the mix and the tons of pepper-based powders and sauces, but I know it's not quite the same.

I think next time I make chili I'm going to add potatoes to the mix. I love a spicy potato.

Your "chili" is sounding less and less like chili! I'm sure it is delish, but at some point it just becomes a tomato based stew, does it not?

I find that really odd. Especially since Old Bay has nutmeg, ginger, allspice, mustard, mace, etc...Certainly not seasoning I'd associate with a chili.

Old Bay is great on popcorn though.
What was the best concert you've been to?

-- Probably Sade. It was just so sexy and relaxing.

Yeah I don't do Old Bay in chili. Cumin and chili powder and maybe some green herby stuff. Light on the green herby stuff. (But only for my chili... know-what-i-mean? ehhh? ohhh.....)

Old Bay and Parmesan are great TOGETHER on Popcorn. I had no idea it had nutmeg in it. My parents live near where they package it and sometimes the air smells like steamed shrimp. Num.

Are we going to get hung up on semantics here? Maybe it's not chili by your outdated standards, square.

Really though, it tastes like chili, regardless of its lack of onions and peppers. It's got beans, it's got lots of cumin and chili powder and bay leaf and other things you traditionally put in chili. Does putting some spices that others wouldn't normally somehow invalidate its chili status?

And we're losing site of the real draw here with all this nitpicking over what is or is not chili: THE BISON. Bison is amazing. My chili/stew/whatever is amazing. When you put an amazing thing with an amazing thing you get the taste equivalent of a lap dance from God.

I cannot get over how great bison is. It's actually much healthier for you than regular ground beef too, which you wouldn't guess from the taste, and as such I much prefer it to ground turkey or any other healthy alternative to ground beef. I really should have bought more than one package at Costco, now I'll be craving bison burgers and bison tacos and all manner of bison-y goodness all week and will have to tough it out until the weekend.

I've never been able to taste the difference between buffalo/bison and decent lean beef.

    I feel sad now.

It's ok Gene, it just means you were born without a soul, that's all.

Also I was telling my fiancee about my argument about my not-chili and she agrees with you anonymous internet people, apparently what I have made is merely a spicy tomato stew absent the onions and peppers and not technically a chili, but I will continue to call it one for simplicity's sake.

Clearly you have to dump her. Women speaking their minds freely?! What's next? SLIPPERY SLOPE!

I'm a Christian and I can tell you that a lapdance from God would be SUPER boring

An aggressive knee can make any lap dance better.

For God's sake this thread is about food and you just almost made me lose my lunch.

Talk about cookies or pie or something. CAKE VS PIE. GO:

Re: Can I interest anyone in some FOOD?

I'm much more of a cake guy myself. Unless it's chocolate cream, lemon, or pumpkin. Otherwise, fuck some pie.

Re: Can I interest anyone in some FOOD?

Just as the boxer brief satisfied an age old question similar to this one, I believe the answer to this would be settled by the invention of the cakepie.

Or a cake called a pie? What about that business?

Re: Can I interest anyone in some FOOD?

Pie goes better with ice cream and therefore is superior. BUT NOT CHERRY! Blech!

Here is a cake made from Humbolt Fog cheese which is one of my favorite cheeses of all time.

You really think pie goes better with ice cream? I mean, I get a la mode and all that, but to me cake and ice cream is just two sides of awesomeness defined!

I never got the whole cake and ice cream thing. Cold on room temp? If the cake is hot (and chocolate), maybe.

For me it's probably just due to years and years of kid's birthday parties and eating cake and ice cream at them. But to this day chocolate cake, with chocolate icing + cookies and cream ice cream is one of the most tasty, creamy and sweet treats!
