I've been jonesing for some Japanese snacks (nobody makes adorable cookies like the Japanese), so I just ordered about $30 worth of junk food from Asian Food Grocer.
Why is it every store that carries Pocky always has such a shitty selection? There are like 20 different kinds of Pocky on sale at any given time in Japan, but it seems like we foreign barbarians are only allowed 3.
I'm in.
my friend from Bangkok sent me a goodie bag of Thai snacks a year or so back. boy i miss those
we have a bunch of Asian grocery stores here in town and they do a pretty good job of covering the Pocky line - in fact, there is one store by my house that whenever I walk in, it completely takes me back to my Japan trip. The way they arranged the store, the products - even the smell - all feel like Japan. If you're wondering what Japan smells like, it's ramen.
There's an ice cream store in Columbus called Jeni's that has macaroon ice cream sandwiches. The one I get is salted caramel with nuts around the edges. The other ice cream sandwich I get is this oatmeal cookie with honey vanilla ice cream and it tastes like apple pie. It's insane.

Meen Bellpeppers: btw only idoits make typoes
Sorry, I've still never been in a 99 Ranch, so I can't compare. I will agree with Heather, though, in that Mitsuwa has a huge aisle of interesting candy.
Our local Kosher market is moving into an old Grocery Store, thus making it the largest Kosher store in the country!

many tine tanies
If you are down for a bit of a drive there are some Korean markets and bakeries in Garden Grove. Ooooo They have these pastries with extra sugary sweet potatoes inside. omfg... delish! And the little Korean markets have a waaaay better snack selection than 99 Ranch.![]()
Speaking of Food Porn, if you like Japanese Food, you must check out DannyChoo.com. Sure, there's a lot of creepy CosPlay/Manga stuff, but the food photography is pretty incredible;

here is today's lunch. it's a reuben from Lunch here in Culver City.
the picture makes it look better than it tasted.
I bought an electric griddle thing and I'm going to use it to make Korean Barbecue.
Winter is Coming: Summer 2011.
by electric griddle do you mean george foreman grill?
I have one in a box that i've had for about 5 years, and Ive never touched it.
I've thought about grilling some korean bbq short ribs I bought from trader joes on it though.
Right now I'm making chicken meatballs with lemon zest, shallots, panko, egg, thyme, parsley and capers inside. The sauce will have fresh fava beans, mushrooms, artichokes, lemon juice, chicken stock, pinot grigio and a touch of cream. I'm going to serve it over Israeli couscous. My question is: Should I use wine OR lemon juice or is both ok?
S.W.A.S.S. points, no deductions!
I'd probably leave out the lemon juice at least at first, white wine should add plenty of tang. You can always add some toward the end if you feel it needs more zazz.
