    "Celebrity" Sightings

I went bowling last night and the woman in the lane next to us had her name up on the monitor: Diablo Cody. Funny joke, right? It was, especially because it was actually Diablo Cody, only I didn't know what she looked like and I thought some civilian was joking. So weird!

(If you click on the picture you can see the name at the top.)

    Your guys' turn.

I saw Adam Carolla on my drive to work this morning. He was driving a Chevy Tahoe, and he spit on the street.

Who the hell puts their full name on a bowling scorecard?

(minor celebrities who want to be recognized)

And your pen name. This seems fishy.

    Re: "Celebrity" Sightings

A few years back in Vegas, after getting around two hours sleep and still drunk, I almost ran over Larry King on my way to grabbing a Krispy Kreme. He stepped out of the way and sarcastically said, "Excuuuse me!" The people I was with informed me that I had almost ran over Larry King in a drunken desire for donuts.

Later he was at the same Sigfried (sp?) and Roy show I was (this was about two months before the mauling).

Then we became best buds. I spoke at his funeral, which was sad because even at the age of 125, he was pretty awesome*.

*I promise only this last paragraph is false. We did not become friends, he has not died and he is not, in fact, awesome. He is also only 118.

I saw James Garner at a mexican restaurant a few months ago.

But aside from Wayne Coyne and Bob Stoops, celebrity sightings aren't exactly commonplace here.

I guess "Oscar winner Diablo Cody. Look at meeeeee!!!!!!" wouldn't fit on the scorecard...

Mark Twain would easier to type than Samuel Langhorne Clemens.

Living in New York, I run into celebrities all the time. Even though it's stupid and I don't follow celebrity stuff, it's always pretty cool.

Sat next to Natalie Portman in a restaurant.
    Famke Janssen at another restaurant.
James Gandolfini walking down the street with a package. I guess he was going to FedEx.
Al Sharpton, although I guess he's not really a celebrity.
    Julia Stiles at a friend's band's show.
    Jerry Springer, crossing the street.
Parker Posey in a thrift shop with her dog.
    Julianne Moore in her trailer.
That guy from the B-52's, once in a bar and again at a dumpling fast food place.
    David Cross on the subway.
That judge from Iron Chef and the Producers and Curb Your Enthusiasm on the subway.
One of the stupid Olsen twins at a MoMA event.
Alan Cumming at an art gallery.
Maggie Gyllenhaal at the garden store around the corner.
Met Tony Hawk at a non-profit awards show.
And apparently I turned down Leonardo DiCaprio from entering a charity auction without a ticket. Didn't realize it was him at the time.

Plus lots of comedians in the audience and after shows I've seen.

Celebrities - they're just like us!

I've often imagined about a third of your list making out with each other. I'll let you guess who.
What was the best concert you've been to?

-- Probably Sade. It was just so sexy and relaxing.

On a flight from New Orleans to LAX with Kim Kardashian in front of me. Didn't even look where you think I'd look. I was proud of myself.

Deron Williams, Jason Kidd, Chris Paul, and Chris Bosh of Team USA basketball at the Wynn in Vegas.

    David Wein at the Grove.

Jimmy Pardo walking across the street on Wilshire.

What kind of weird Alan Cumming/Tony Hawk slashfic are you writing?

I saw Bryan Cranston once about a block from my old office. He was leaving a Ritz Carlton hotel.

I ran into Will Arnett at a Starbucks in my office building a few weeks ago. I congratulated him on the birth of his son and after a bit of superficial chat I showed him Sidney's picture.

To his credit, he pretended that the interaction wasn't a nuisance.

I was at a wedding in Ireland a couple of weeks ago with Barry Gleeson and his brother who is an Irish musician of some acclaim. They are both large men with giant hands and heads and can drink me under the table which is no small feat.

The real Riverdance Dancers were there too, if that counts.

I see Elijah Wood every now and then, since he lives across the street from my office.

On the weekends I volunteer as an usher to see musicals, so I saw Alan Tudyk come in to see Phantom of the Opera, then Jason Alexander the next day.

On the plane to Charlotte, NC, Jeffrey Sebelia of project runway was sitting 2 rows in front of me. I wasn't sure if it was him at first, or some other guy with neck tattoos.

    Re: "Celebrity" Sightings

One of the things I find odd about is that when I was younger and was much more involved in show business I had a handful of friends who dated or were roommates of B and C list celebrities. So someone might ask, "Do you ever get to meet X?" "Um, yeah, we went to see a show with them and then hung out afterwards. And my friend got to kiss them! Because they're going out." You know? "I was over at my friend's apartment and X hadn't done the breakfast dishes and they left their mail on the coffee table for three days!"

Where I grew up, a few people I knew in school were the children of congressmen and senators, so it was more like, "Congressman x? Ha! Totally took away his son's videogames after he got a C in math and then sat down for an hour every Saturday studying math until he brought his grades up."

at some point, on this board, if you're actively working in stand-up, such sightings become kind of odd to discuss.
