For the most part, the prices are still well below Amazon's, and most of the items that I would be interested in buying were already significantly cheaper and would now be even moreso. That blog post is pretty vague about when exactly the "pre-sale price" was in effect. Most retailers strategically raise and lower prices all the time, but that doesn't mean you can't find good deals among them.
Personally, I've always been impressed with how consistently Deep Discount seems to have the cheapest DVDs.
BestBuy usually has the best deals for me, but they're so random with what goes on sale and when, and that means I have to just stop by once a week and browse. You can usually count on certain TV-shows being on sale right when a new season is released, though.
Barnes & Noble is having a 50% off Criterion sale. It's been mentioned before that B&N charges too much for DVDs, but half-off the list price of Criterion is probably cheaper than you're going to find retail.
Yeah, 50% off at B&N is pretty good regardless of their jacked up prices.
Today only, Amazon has Twilight Zone: The Complete Definitive Collection for $105.99

Not a bad price for a 28 disc set.
B&N has added a "20% off any one item" coupon code that totally works on top of the Criterion sale. I know because I tried it. You can only use it on one item, but 70% off Criterion brings several sets way below used prices. The code is P3N9L8M, enjoy being equal parts stingy and pretentious.
Thanks!!
I totally used this.

That Twilight Zone deal is GREAT and I really wish I had more than 25 minutes to decide if I want to shell out a hundred bucks because I just saw it now.

They're new sets, which are basically just regular DVD cases packed full with 6 discs each (5 for some seasons.) The old sets were larger and cost close to 80 bucks each.
