Thread: Hey let's do that iPod shuffle thing - that's always fun

Re: Hey let's do that iPod shuffle thing - that's always fun

Oh boy, here it goes. ..
    1. Kanye West “Good Life Ft. T-Pain” (Graduation)- [[How is this my first song!?! Cure you iPod. Sometimes I guarantee the shuffle purposely tries to screw with your mind …]] I think I got this album because it came out the same day as 50 Cent’s “Curtis” album and 50 Cent promised that if Kanye sold more albums than him he would stop recording. Also, need a little auto-tune every once in a while. Great article about Kanye on Cracked: http://www.cracked.com/blog/what-if-...st-is-retarded.
    2. Travis Barker and DJ-AM “Coachella 7” (Fix Your Face 2)- These guys made 2 amazing mash up/ dance albums together, but all good things must come to an end. Sometimes it is just at the end of a crack pipe. This mix includes: Michael Jackson “Wanna Be Starting Something,” White Stripes “7 Nation Army” and Daft Punk “One More Time.”
    3. The Beach Boys “Surfer Girl” (Greatest Hits)- I love finding the innuendo, both sexual and drug related, in Beach Boys songs. Not as much in this song, but you can always imply things like, Surfer Girl is referring to a heroin needle. Might be a bit of a stretch
    4. Sage Francis “Threewrite” (Sick of Waging War)- Sage Francis is a 40-something rapper from Rhode Island. There are more (good) white rappers out there besides Eminem. This song, like a good amount of his tracks is about a failed relationship.
    5. Rage Against the Machine “Ashes in the Fall” (The Battle of Los Angeles)- I typically only listen to Rage when I’m really angry or if I am taking the subway home to the Bronx after a long day at work. There music just makes me want to punch something, or stick something in a blender and watch it turn to sawdust. Then I go on to the next song and realize that punching and blending things doesn’t accomplish much.
    6. Blink-182 “Online Songs” (Take Off Your Pants and Jacket)- Wow, haven’t heard this in a while. This went on my iPod when I originally got it 5 or 6 years ago. This comes from when I though I was cool for listening to pop-punk and wishing I could afford a skateboard. I probably should do some deleting on this thing and free up some space for all those lovely podcasts I’ve become too engaged with.
    7. Doug Stanhope “Breakfast Trannies” (Deadbeat Hero)- I think Stanhope is king of cringe and no holds barred. I think his albums are great because you don’t get the normal comedy club laugh track, but rather people moaning and wishing they had gone to a movie instead. By the way, Stanhope has a new album “From Across the Street.”
    8. Jay-Zeezer “Only In a Moment of Clarity” (The Black & Blue Album)- Wow, another mash up. I guess my iPod likes the bootlegs today. Not sure who made this, but similar vibe to The Grey Album. Some of the tracks are sped up a bit too much, but its still fun.
    9. Atmosphere “Pour Me Another” (You Can’t Imagine How Much Fun Were Having)- If you even like rap a little bit you should pick up an Atmosphere album. Similar to Sage Francis (#4) Atmo doesn’t profess Bling & Bentleys, but rather living off minimum wage and Lincoln Town Cars. These guys seem like they are having a lot of fun making music, and it shows in their music.
    10. MC Lars “iGeneration” (The Graduate)- [[Anyone else find it weird that the iPod Shuffle put my first album as “Graduation” and “The Graduate” for my tenth?]] MC Lars is the frontrunner of the Nerdcore movement. This song is nerdy, but not nearly as some other Nerdcore artists who write songs about D&D and odes to Chun-Li. You try and find something that rhymes with Showdooken…
Well there we go. Have fun examining and critiquing.

I love how raaaaandom this song's existence on your list is. Techno/grindcore just comes out of nowhere.

I'll do one of these soon. I bet that 95% of people on this board wont recognize most of my list.

Also, from the first page, Kate Nash is wonderful . Check out Laura Marling if you like that kind of mellow-ish british pop music. She's much more subtle and acoustic, but really amazing.

    Here goes...

    1.) "Strange"--Wire
I heard R.E.M's cover of this song before I heard the original but I like both versions.
2.) "If Only You Were Lonely"--The Replacements
Odds are at least one Mats song would pop up since my iPod is choked with them. It's hard not to love a song with lines like, "Twenty push-ups this mornin', that was half of my goal/Tonight I'll be doin' pull-ups on the toilet bowl"
    3.) "Swallowtail"--The Brian Jonestown Massacre"
I hadn't heard any of the BJM's music until I saw the brilliant documentary "Dig!", but I think some of their songs, like this one, are really great.
4.) "We Are the Road Crew"--Motorhead
I've never been a big metal fan, but I love these guys.
5.) "Let The Mystery Be"--Iris Dement
Pretty much sums religion up for me.
    6.) "A Hard Day's Night"--The Beatles
One of my favorite movies, too.
    7.) "Cave Man"--Chris Smither
-Beautiful song from a very underrated songwriter, and one of the best slide guitar players around
    8.) "Banging Camp"--The Hold Steady
My favorite band working today, and one of the best live bands I've ever seen.
    9.) "Can You Fly"--Freedy Johnston
Title track from one of my favorite 90's albums.
    10.) "Don't Believe the Hype"--Public Enemy
-Haven't heard this one in a long time, but I've always liked it.

My iPod seems to sometimes pick a few albums each "shuffle" sessions and plays songs from them over and over.

    Pissed Jeans?

"Twisting" - They Might Be Giants
Scene 2 - "I Was Just Looking at Her Jeans" - Pigeon John
"Crack The Whip" - Spinto Band
"The Human Drive in Hi-Fi" - cKy
"You Hit Me Over My Head" - Dogbowl
    "The Dilemma" - BS2000
    "Rockaway Beach" - Ramones
    "Ankh" - Poperratic
    "Pink Triangle" - Weezer
"Tour Heart Throb" - All-Girl Summer Fun Band
"Kenny Smokes Cloves" - Mr. T Experience

Re: Hey let's do that iPod shuffle thing - that's always fun

The great thing about this thread is skimming through it and finding a song you actually like only to see the person say "I don't actually like this song/band that much" and getting irrationally mad.

Anyway is this thread's Ipod had a shuffle it would be all songs by Mindless Self Indulgence. Ha ha! Am I right? Ha ha! See yah later!

I legitimately like all these songs, and I am not ashamed!

    1) Give Me the Night, George Benson - Great adult contemporary-jazz-funk.

    2) Let's Go, The Cars - I like classic rock and I like new wave. The Cars are both!

    3) You Turn the Screws, Cake - Second time this song has been mentioned in the thread!

    4) You Take Me Up, Thompson Twins - There's lots of non-hits on the Thompson Twins' Greatest Hits, and they're all actually pretty good.

    5) The Rake's Song, The Decemberists - Got this as part of a free iTunes song sampler. It was a good investment.

    6) Tomorrow Never Knows, The Beatles - Little known fact about The Beatles: They're pretty good!

    7) Shine, Collective Soul - Still not ashamed!

    8) Ain't That a Shame, Cheap Trick - Pretty good cover, although the two-minute intro is a bit unnecessary.

    9) Impersonality, The Goo Goo Dolls - This is before "Iris," which means it's okay to like it. Featuring lead vocals by bassist Robby Takac.

    10) Walls Come Down, The Style Council - Great way to end this! Lots of bouncy piano.

Re: Hey let's do that iPod shuffle thing - that's always fun

Why would anyone have songs they didn't like on their iPod anyway?

Also, I was reading mattmanser's listings as though they were sentences... "You turn the screws, cake."

Give me the night, George Benson!

Yes it was a group fronted by two of the best comedic minds of all time...but holy shit can Belush sing! And Danny wasn't exactly a terrible harmonica player...in fact before John Popper hit the scene I thought he played the best harmonica of anyone I'd heard. This song has a) my favorite "Blues" performance of John Belushi and B)a sick sick sick solo from Matt Guitar Murphy.
This was a nice surprise to see on someone's list. Many years ago I was kind of obsessed with the Blues Brothers; I've since calmed down but I still listen to this album regularly.

Given your stand-up bit, and our shared SE Michigan background, let me just say I am disappointed to see no Eddie Money here.

Cheap Trick is no substitute for Eddie Money, Cake!

PS - I better call and make sure Pigeon's okay - he may be hurt after getting his name dropped so hard on a message board

Surprisingly, there is no Eddie Money on my iTunes! This is a horrible oversight on my part, and I shall correct it promptly.

    I don't own an Ipod.
Do you have iTunes? Winamp? a CD-changer?

I don't own one either. I use Pandora or listen to stuff on MySpace music. I'm kind of ashamed to call myself a geek.
