iMac edition. My iMac clearly has some relationship and emotional problems.

Sebadoh - Soul and Fire: Super sad breakup song. One of the best.
Madonna - Sorry: Super rad "keep walkin', boy" song. One of the best.
Etta James - I'd Rather Go Blind: What's going on here? Did my iMac get dumped?
The Smiths - I Started Something I Couldn't Finish: Are you now on a rebound, iMac?
The Smiths - What Difference Does It Make?: Now you're just being bitter.
The Killers - Who Let You Go?: Now you're re-rebounding with someone who really likes you. I'm happy for you, iMac.
The Smiths - William, It Was Really Nothing: The above relationship didn't work out?
Mayer Hawthorne - Just Ain't Gonna Work Out: WOW. I'm speechless.
Fiction Factory - Feels Like Heaven: ...a new love, iMac?
Madonna - Material Girl: You got your heart broken and now you just want money. Oh, iMac.

(The next song was The Smiths - I Know It's Over. I should take my iMac out and get it drunk.)
    I you.

I saw Morrissey on Wednesday night, and he wasn't nearly as mopey as your iMac.

BAD BRAINS – “Pay to Cum”
Goddamn, if this isn’t a rip-snortin’ start, I don’t know what is. I’m not old enough to have seen Bad Brains in their prime (although I am old enough to have seen them post-prime), but I am old enough to know people who saw them in their prime and I think, to a person, they all declare them to be the greatest live band of all time. I guess I really can’t find a reason to disagree. Bad Brains are responsible for almost e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g, he said by way of overstatement.

    BLACK ATHLETES – “Die Laughing”
Whoa! Flashback to 1985 for my iPod. Straight from the “Thrasher Magazine: Skate Rock! Vol. 1” compilation, this makes me want to seek out a rad backyard ramp, tighten my Independent trucks and … sit around and brood, my athletic ability never allowing me to even come close to shredding. My older brother shredded gnarly rat bones, though, dude, and I did my undergraduate music nerd work sitting around various ramps and driveways as the older skaters cranked the latest in motivational Memorex cassette dubs. The early Skate Rock comps by Thrasher were rad (The Accused, COC, Dead Injuns, JFA), but I remember also being introduced to The Smiths, W.A.S.P. and Metallica around that time, too.

    LOVE – “Good Times”
Off of the (maybe?) unfairly maligned “Four Sail” album. Like this album a lot. Near the end of that “Love Story” documentary, they show some pro-shot footage of this later Love line-up that I had never seen before. I need to go on to YouTube and dig that up.

MARISSA NADLER – “Cortez the Killer”
Winter time has meant Marissa Nadler for the past three years in my head. Fuck, there’s something so icy about her magical folk fuckabouts. Here she is covering my favorite Neil Young song. Magnificent!

    CORROSION OF CONFORMITY – “What?”
From “Thrasher Magazine: Skate Rock! Vol. 3: Wild Riders of Boards” compilation. I think I must have dumped a bunch of these on the iPod recently.

PAUL F. TOMPKINS – “Smashed Pennies”
    Doesn’t count! Too funny.

THE PSYCHO SURGEONS – “Horizontal Action”
Hell, yeah! “Horizontal Action” – get it?!?!? From the invaluable bootleg “Murder Punk” compilations. I got those “Murder Punk” comps along with the “Do the Pop! Redux” comp and two volumes of the “Can’t Stop It! Australian Post-Punk 1979-1984” comps a couple of years ago and somehow came to believe that Australian rock and roll is the best rock and roll. It could happen to you!

THE CROCODILES – “Soft Skull (In My Room)”

Dig this “Summer of Hate” album quite a bit. Who is that on the cover? I wonder, yet do not Google.

    IRON MAIDEN – “The Trooper”

“Screeeeeaaaaaaammmm for me, Long Beach!” Fuck. Never get tired of this, over more than 20 years.

RAMONES – “Why Is It Always This Way”
Jesus Christ, talk about a band I could never get tired of. The Ramones are the gift that just keeps on giving. Can’t believe they’re gone, daddy, gone. Real gone.

    SVARTI LOGHIN – “Inner Desolation”
And where would we be without some frozen Scandinavian black metal? Doomy and atmospheric.

"Human After All" - DAFT PUNK
I got into Daft Punk a little later than most but that doesn't mean I appreciate them any less. I definitely think this is one of their best songs.

"As Long As You Love Me" - BACKSTREET BOYS
Of course this ends up being one of the ten. I'd like to say this is my iPod here for purely ironic reasons like Enrique Iglesias' "Do You Know" or Aaron Carter's "That's How I Beat Shaq", but I genuinely enjoy listening to the Backstreet Boys every once in a while. I'm sure it's mainly nostalgia because I grew up when they were very popular. I don't think they're GOOD, no. So there's that.

    "I'm Sailing Away" - STYX
A classic. This is a song that I tend to only listen to if I'm in a certain mood, though I can't say for sure what that particular mood is. Sometimes this'll come on shuffle and I'll skip past it, and other times I'll get very happy and excited about it.

"The Boys of Summer" - DON HENLEY
I just like this song. Though, it's really only on my iPod because of that Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Songs thing. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have thought to seek it out. I do think it's a great song, though.

    "Going Down" - FREDDIE KING
Many of you may recognize this is as the title music from Eastbound and Down. Nabbed it off a fan-made soundtrack of the show. The song is actually pretty fun.

"Every Breath You Take" - THE POLICE
Don't have much to say here other than I do like this song.

"The Simpsons Theme Song" - DANNY ELFMAN
Yes, I have stuff like this on my iPod as well. I'm one of those people. This is an extended version that's actually pretty fun to listen to.

    "High Road" - FORT MINOR
I never outgrew Linkin Park, so when Fort Minor rolled around I realized I could enjoy the bits of LP that I liked most (Mike Shinoda) without the embarrassment of listening to Linkin Park. I can safely say that The Rising Tied is one of my favorite albums to listen to because I love almost every track. This is actually one of my favorites on it.

    "Baba O'Riley" - THE WHO
I'm glad this popped on because The Who is my all-time favorite band, and "Won't Get Fooled Again" is my all-time favorite song. I love "Baba O'Riley" nearly as much, though. I can talk about The Who forever so I'll just move on.

    "Valentine" - JUSTICE
A friend introduced me to Justice and my world was rocked. This isn't one of the better tracks on the album, but it's still great. I much prefer "Genesis," "Let There Be Light," "Phantom" and "Phantom Pt. II," the last probably being my favorite.
