Just got my Platinum trophy on Heavy Rain. A really easy one to get but the various endings you see along the way keep it from getting too boring.

As for old retro games with vague stories... I don't quite know what you're getting at.

I meant Mario games specifically. Braid is so littered with references to it that I thought the comparison was apt.

I don't know, I just think the game accomplished everything that it wanted to. If it doesn't give me the experience I want, that's my problem, but the game gave me the experience it intended. The story is just an optional puzzle that you can "solve if you want to" and that's fine with me.

I had no idea what the fuck the "real" story was in Braid. All I knew is throughout it

it seemed like you were going to save a princess, and there was subtle hints to something not being quite right. Then at the end it reverses the level to instead show that you were some creepy stalker type guy that the princess is running away from. I though it was a pretty neat twist. Anything beyond that is lost on me, and I could care less about.

I could be wrong about this...but I think you mentioned this a while ago in this thread when talking about the first game, and I had mentioned that you can turn Vita-Chambers off in the option menu. The same can be done in this game. If only you had listened to me!!!! (presuming it was you in the first place...)

MegaMan 10 came out today. Just beat it and it was even better than MegaMan 9! Good job, Capcom!

Only problem: the weapons aren't as well-balanced and useful as they were in MM9.

It's about as hard as MegaMan 9. I'm just a huge MegaMan fan and I've played them so much that I don't have any real trouble with any of the games. They're all essentially the same game and controls, just with different levels, bosses, and weapons. If you're good at one, you're good at them all.

For those wondering, I've already been bumped down to 5th place. Someone got 35 minutes, which is just mind-boggling.

I've been playing Braid to take my mind off stuff this past week, and while I have gotten kinda stuck at almost every turn, I managed to finish every room/puzzle except #6 (which I need to complete to progress). Now, with one piece left to get, I think I'm officially stuck.

Second to last level of World 6 ("Elevator Action"), where a one-way lever drops a ladder that only reaches the platform where the puzzle piece is when it bounces to its apex. I've put the slow-mo ring under the ladder, hit the switch, stood on the sparkly green platform and rewound to just after the lever was hit, then I run and jump onto the ladder and climb it, but I'm always just a millisecond slow... or so it seems. Can someone tell me if I'm doing this right and my timing is off, or if I'm barking up the wrong tree with this method? I don't want to cheat and look up the solution, because unlike some games with puzzles, all this game is is puzzles, and if I can't solve them on my own I feel like I should just stop playing or something. But my brain is locked into this solution -- I've tried other things, but I keep coming back to this being "the way." In the past with this game I've just moved on to the next thing if I can't solve a puzzle, and I've always been able to go back and figure it out. But I can't move forward here, so I'm just stuck. This might also be a metaphor for something.

That game kicks me in the head. And you're way farther than I am.

Honestly, there were times in Braid where I didn't 100% understand what I was doing or how the mechanics worked, but I still managed to progress. The whole shadow thing was pretty brain-melting, and if I stop to think about the green residue that makes you (and sometimes objects and villains) exempt from time-reversals etc. it makes me dizzy. Sometimes you have to turn your brain off and just try stuff to see what can be done. But I loved the feeling of figuring something out and then pulling it off -- my favorite being when

you have to place your shadow in one spot, let a pumpkin man drop onto him, then jump and bounce off the pumpkin man when he's in midair to reach a platform.

Bad Company is getting a 92 so far on Metacritic... and a 95 on teamxbox.

People should really play this game. I'm serious. Review highlights below.

This is the best sounding war game you've ever played. It's like the film "Heat" in the jungle, and the voice acting is excellent.
With a better balanced set of unlocks and fantastic gameplay, the multiplayer is probably the first thing we've seen that might tear you away from warfare that doesn't feel as modern any more.

I didn't care for the map in the BF:BC2 demo, but I am going to rent the game today to see if I like it enough to buy it.

I think part of the problem people have with the series is that there's a learning curve. There is so much you can do, and so much going on, it can be overwhelming if you've never really played the series. I guess part of the reason I enjoy it so much is that Arch and I play it together and are both pretty good... so it's not like just getting your ass kicked all the time. Which is what COD is for me... just constantly dying and not knowing where it came from.
