So if I had to choose between Wii Fit and EA Active, I think fit would be more my parents speed, with more yoga and low impact exercises.

So apparently my parents got a Wii for some reason. I guess my dad thinks the controller is cool. As a youth I feel somewhat obligated to suggest games but I don't have any suggestions 'cause I don't have a Wii. So far they've got Sports (obv) and Mario Kart.
I figure I'll tell my dad to get like House of the Dead or something. I don't think he's going to take to controlling a character and shooting Resident Evil style (as a matter of fact the controls to that game sort of pissed me off) but I imagine he can get behind a simple arcade shooter like that. Is there a better option than the House of the Dead games?
As for my mom, has anyone got recommendations for stuff along the lines of game shows, word puzzles, etc?
Any other gentle-learning-curve ideas for non-gamers would also be appreciated.
Just so you know, House of the Dead Overkill is really vulgar, if that's a thing for your dad.
Okami and Pikmin (both ports) are both great, but they're both pretty game-y. Looking at my collection, is mostly game-y, but I could see a dad liking those.
I'd actually recommend trying out some stuff from WiiWare. Those games are almost always going to be cheaper than the disc-based games, and there's plenty of good stuff. World of Goo is a perennial favorite. Your mom might like You, Me and the Cubes, it's a weird puzzler. You can get Uno there, always good. Space Invaders Get Even is probably particularly cool for anyone who was around for the first game in the arcades. The Phoenix Wright games are both great. I've heard good things about Dr. Mario. And if you feel like terrifying them, there's always Muscle March.

Cave Story is coming to the Wii tomorrow (March 22) apparently. If you haven't played this game, do yourself a favor and do it. Its freeware on pc, so you could save money and play it on there, or just spend a few bucks and play the (more than likely) enhanced version on Wii.
I was a bit skeptical at first because of the title of the game made it sound lame and the graphics are pretty archaic but when I played it I realized it's exactly the type of game I love. Its kind of like Metroid with a bit more emphasis on story (not a ton, just more characters and a bit of dialogue here and there). The gameplay is super fun and addicting, and the music is catchy and fits the game well. Its without a doubt the best freeware game I have ever played, and I can see why Nintendo optioned it for its Wiiware.
Yes. I am super excited for the Wii version. It's much enhanced visually, and there's apparently going to be plenty of bonus content to be had. I only left it out of the WiiWare list because it skews fairly hardcore.
Oh, the Boom Blox games are great, too. Get the sequel, it's a huge improvement over an already fun game.

I remember playing and enjoying some surgery game at a friends on the Wii...trauma something or other?

Oh yeah, I forgot they made Trauma Center for Wii. I liked the DS version at first, but it seemed to get insanely hard very quickly.
Yeah, that DS game was out-of-control impossible. It gets to the point where you start to think that maybe actual surgery is easier.
Trauma Center on the Wii is also really challenging. I feel like you could adjust the difficulty at any point, however, if a level overwhelmed you. I might be wrong on that, but I think I remember having to lower the difficulty to make it through the final level, which was just crazy.
They're releasing a new one soon, Trauma Team, with a lot more variety than previous games. You might want to wait for that one and check out the reviews.

I decided to rent Twilight Princess and obsessively play it this entire week until I'm done. I'm at Gerudo Desert.

I've set aside FFXIII in favor of the Dragon Age expansion. I feel a little bad for being so easily dazzled by the prospect of higher levels and new abilities.
How is it? I haven't taken the plunge yet, but I'm planning on it soon.

It's exactly what I expected: More Dragon Age! You have to deal with the darkspawn while also dealing with being in charge of an army and land.
A couple of the secondary characters are back, but most of the companions are new. Unfortunately, one of them talks exactly like Alistair did in the regular game, and I got sick of his Joss-Whedoning the first time.
For those in the FF13 camp, it does open up drastically at the start of chapter 11. You get put into the middle of a huge open plain, and you get missions to do as an option. Also, there are some random monster encounters you have no chance against, and just have to avoid(Adamantoise in particular), and it feels like a final fantasy game again in terms of the nature type element of the graphics.
It's weird to be playing that game just waiting for chapter 11 to role around.
