Thread: This is the new games thread

It just had too many flaws for me... countless times where I couldn't figure out what I was supossed to be doing. No HUD to tell me where my teammates were.... guns that don't really add anything new, other than the slime teather... which they promptly run into the ground.

It has all the pieces of a Ghostbusters game, sound, voices, music etc... but it has none of the joy.

I think I just like it's simplicity. It's a nice quick romp through familiar territory. My biggest criticism is that it costs too much for so little.

I've read several reviews that say the Wii version is actually a lot more entertaining and that the cartoony graphics fit the line readings better. A Special Thing, I would like your thoughts on the matter, and thank you in advance.

Let me go buy a Wii and a copy of Ghostbusters and get back to you. Joking aside, that sounds like it makes sense. Something like a proton pack screams for a motion controller.

nathan, did you play it on Wii?

no, I played it for the PS3. I may put it in my GameFly queue just to check it out though

Is GameFly a good investment? I was wondering about it while I was at college. For that matter, to go slightly off the subject of video games, what about NetFlix?

I have Gamefly and it's almost worth it. It takes FOREVER to get games, and most times if you want to new release you have to take everything of your queue and wait for at least a week before it will ship. I think I had Prototype and Ghostbusters on my queue for almost 2 weeks without them shipping, but FNR4 shipped the day it was released because it was also on there the whole time.

Long story short, you almost have to trick the system. It's nowhere near as fast as Netflix, and you almost always have to wait for the new releases. I'm not sure I'm actually saving any money over buying these games and trading them in.

I tried the one at Blockbuster, but it's the same problem. The new/best games will be out for months at a time.

Has anyone played the Point Lookout DLC for Fallout 3 yet? I'm still working my way through Broken Steel (which is surprisingly long!).

Fallout 3 and Wii Fit are pretty much my only games this year. What's the best stuff that's come out for Wii, DS, PSP, and 360 the first half of this year? Ghostbusters? GTA Chinatown? Is Conduit for the Wii any good? I probably won't be buying a new game for a few months, just too goddamn busy and broke, but I like to know these things in advance so I can be super elitist/choosy when I do.

For 360, I don' think there's been a "great" game for months now. There's a ton of great stuff coming out in November, but I've been pretty unimpressed with the games that have come out in the last few months.

I did like the Spiderman game, Ghostbusters was a disappointment... Fight Night 4 is pretty good.... still waiting to try Prototype... Prince of Persia was pretty fun.... that's about it.

From what I've heard, Point Lookout adds a whole lot of space to explore and a pretty decent amount of new weapons and armor. Everyone tells me it is the best add on yet. Not that I would know. I am still waiting for Operation Anchorage to hit the PS Store in the next couple of weeks.

I'd go out on a limb and say Point Lookout is probably worth it.

I rented "Damnation" for the 360 yesterday and didn't like it at all. I agree about no good games coming out, I just keep going back to Battlefield: Bad Company most often.

I still haven't finished Fallout 3 but really find myself wanting to buy the expansion packs.

I got GTA Chinatown (first time I'd ever played a GTA game) and enjoyed it for a few weeks, but then tired of it. The missions are sort of tedious and the drug-selling aspect was fun for a while until all of a sudden you have more money than you'll ever need. The game needs some way of spending money other than buying safehouses, guns and lottery tickets. Rhythm Heaven is a fun DS game but even that is getting boring to me now. I recently decided I'm going to start taking advantage of the ability to skip certain challenges because it's not fun spending several days trying in vain to master a certain rhythm.

On the horizon, I'm looking forward to the new Professor Layton (Aug 24), Scribblenauts (Sept 15) and that new Zelda game (TBA). I just noticed there's a "Press Your Luck" game slated for October, too!

Operation Anchorage is absolute garbage. DO NOT purchase it.

I really liked The Pitt, it's more atmosphere, character, and decision based than any of the other DLCs. And I really like Broken Steel. But DO NOT purchase Operation Anchorage. It's really simple and really bland, and once you "start" the mission you can't get out of it until you beat it. I was so frustrated it took me months to get through it just because of how little I was playing.

Fallout 3 is one hell of a game though. Some of the best long-term usage I've ever gotten from a console game.

I'm pretty excited for Bioshock 2 and Mass Effect 2 as well.

Assassin's Creed 2 looks to have fixed my only gripes with the first game (plus adds a hang glider).

Crackdown 2 is also coming out, and the original was one of my alltime favorites...... Plus a new Call of Duty....

It's going to be like every year, November will be full of great games and then you'll see a trickle the rest of the year.

At some point, they're going to have to release Alan Wake as well.

I might just to hold me off until the Pitt is released. Plus, I figure that I want the new items. The only DLC that I'm not going to get at all is Mothership Zeta. I am a Fallout fanatic. Been playing through the first one lately.

As for upcoming games, definitely Assassin's Creed 2 and Modern Warfare 2. Those and probably God of War 3. Whenever that comes out...

Alan Wake is the new Duke Nukem Forever.

what was your gripe about assassin's creed?

Gamefly is $20/month so it's worth it if you buy a game every 2 months or so. I used to but now that I'm married and have a second pair of eyes looking at my bank account it's easier to justify the 20. Plus if I hate a game or know that I won't like it or whatever I send it right back. It can take a while for games to show up but i'd say it's never more than a week once you drop that game in the mail. since they cost so much to buy, I'd say that's a good deal.

it's different with netflix because movies are cheaper and last only 2 hours. so it would be real bummer if it took that longvyo get them - but i understand gamefly's problem. and it's gotten a million times better than what it was when RedOctane was doing it - I think as they get bigger they will keep adding distribution centers and wait times and availability will get better- just like with Netflix
