Thread: New members: introduce yourselves here

Re: New members: introduce yourselves here

I signed up for an account here a while ago but hadn't posted until now. At any rate, I perform improv in the Detroit area most often at Go Comedy (www.gocomedy.net) as well as being a fan of the usual comedy suspects here. Just trying to get the word out about comedy happenings in Michigan...

Re: New members: introduce yourselves here

    Hey.
I'm the guy at the social gathering, be it a party or the office or maybe an office party, who introduces himself only after an inappropriate amount of time has passed since you first met.
I'm here because I was given an I-pod awhile back and didn't know what to do with it. Not wanting to listen to music on it I soon found that I could use it to make me laugh and to keep strangers from coming up and talking to me. So now I don't have to pretend I'm busy with my cell phone when I see someone that looks a little too chatty on the horizon. So anyway I found comedy shows and those shows told me to come here, so I did.
I don't do stand up but have a lot of respect for those that do and anyway the world of stand up doesn't need any more members coming out of Anonymous programs.

I was thinking about taking classes there. I know a guy who's done stuff over there - have you ever met Darnell Anderson?

I have! Very nice guy and a funny performer. I have yet to see his standup. He was just there last night for the open improv set.

The teachers at Go are terrific. I had a few of them when they taught at the late, lamented Second City Novi Training Center. They've also been doing some one-day workshops lately. I'm a big advocate of Go....the place makes me very happy.

If you come sometime, make sure to say hello.

I'll be sure to. I think next summer I'm very likely to take some classes there.

And yeah, Darnell's a great guy and a good friend of mine. He was the president of Western Michigan University's Stand-up Comedy club when I joined and was a big help in my getting started.

Re: New members: introduce yourselves here

Hey all. Been lurking around about a month now and figured I'd stop being creepy and start posting. I'm currently working on stand up material as well as trying to grow the balls to actually get up on stage for my first time (as far as comedy goes, I do the whole band thing pretty often but no one really cares at those shows anyway.) Soooo yep, seems like a great board, tons of funny people, looking forward to getting to know some of you and hopefully those internet tubes don't burst into the ocean.

Hello. I'm Dan. Through convoluted means I found this show from WFMU (-> Scharpling -> Andy Daly). I live in England. I am about to start grad school at a place with a good comic tradition and am going to get involved in it as best I can.

Re: New members: introduce yourselves here

    Hey, how's it going?

I'm a little intimidated to write on here because some of the people are pretty harsh. But I just spent a while reflecting on my stand-up comedy experience, and it would be cool to hear how it's going or has gone for other people.

I'm including a link to my story. If that's not cool, then I'll take it off. I don't know the etiquette of this site. Thanks.

Re: New members: introduce yourselves here

HI HERE ARE SOME FACTS ABOUT ME:

I'm a big enough comedy nerd to know what this place is, and to decide to post here.

I'm trying to do standup in Chicago but as of the time I'm writing this, I'm way out of practice talking in front of a crowd without sounding like a huge spazzmo.

I also like talking about food and music. I will bore your tits off about either of those topics if given a chance. Clean off.

I spordacially run a podcast where I talk to local persons of interest, most recently to AST posters CJ and Joe from the Late Live Show. I do this for the Chicago Underground Library (http://underground-library.org), which is pretty cool.

Feel free to ask about anything else.

    People read this, right?

Re: New members: introduce yourselves here

Hi! Dunno why it took me so long to sign up here, but I finally have. I'll save you the biographic novella, and just say I'm happy to be here.

Does anyone ever really read these introduction threads?

Re: New members: introduce yourselves here

    Hi, I'm Michael!

I just relocated to Chicago from Kentucky to pursue stand-up and I'm lovin' it. Still unemployed, though, so hire me if you can. Been tellin' jokes for about a year and I'mma do it forever, and for income one day.

Re: New members: introduce yourselves here

Hi all. Jason here in Colorado. I'm quite the comedy junky. I'm in constant pursuit of new things to discover that will make me laugh. I'm also very picky about what I like. I collect classic comedy albums as well as CDs (I hate digital only albums!!). Some of my most recent CDs and LPs I've gotten and really enjoyed are by Kyle Kinane, Shane Mauss, Jen Kirkman, Andi Smith, Jon Mulaney, Matt Braunger, Paula Poundstone, Mrtin Mull, Bob Newhart, Smoithers Brothers. Also a huge fan of good sketch comedy. I read way too many books about and by comics. Lost where I was goin' with this, so I'll leave it at that.

Re: New members: introduce yourselves here

    Hi there.

I've been reading this site for years now but only recently began posting.

    About me:
    - I've been writing and performing sketch comedy for about three years.
    - I'm moving to LA on Friday
    - I really do look like my avatar.

    Nice to finally delurk.

I think that's something that anyone could use a price break on. Current economy being what it is and all.
