Hi, I'm Steve Body, posting under the incredibly clever screen name of "steve.body". (The dot is to throw off agents of the Mossad, who have me confused with someone else.)

I live in Bellevoid...I mean "Bellevue", Washington, a soul-less retail hell-hole located directly across Lake Washington from downtown Seattle. I'm originally from Greensboro, North Carolina, and have lived in the Pacific Northwest since May of '92. I was a professional actor, director, playwright, and script doctor for about 25 years, performing in theatres all over the Southeast and doctoring dinner theatre comedies, removing the "jokes" and replacing them with stuff that makes people laugh. (I was generally successful at this...but not always)

I have also written for radio, doing a syndicated, 90 second comedy piece called, "The Way Things Look From Here" during the 70s and 80s in the Mid-Atlantic states. I have, literally, written almost every single day of my life. I now write mystery novels and a Reader Blog for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer Online edition called "The Constant Valentine". I also own a wine shop and write wine criticism for several online sites.

Have been doing stand up on and off for about a year and a half, never really hitting it hard until a couple of months ago. I missed Patton Oswalt's shows in Melbourne when he was out here for the comedy festival last year. I regret it immensely.

I possibly because I've presented myself with this grand illusion that things are better elsewhere. Case and point; Los Angeles. I think it has a lot to do with me wanting to make films and the kind of things Australia likes to make are not the kind of things I like to make.

Purely talking about Sydney versus other places just for quality of life and such; Melbourne is probably cooler. The people are more laid back. There's millions of bars and hidden little laneways tucked away all over the place. However, as far as comedy venues go I don't think there are that many. And for that reason I'm going to stick to my guns on local turf for a little while yet.

Sorry for that long ass answer. In short; the grass is always greener...

I co-host a radio call-in show on WFMU (91.1 or wfmu.org) in the NYC area that iTunes labels "comedy" -- though your mileage may vary. It's called "Shut Up, Weirdo" (shutupweirdo.com), and it airs every Friday at 6pm (Eastern).
