I see a gigantic backlash forming in the media as well as in conservative circles about all of this attention on Palin's daughter and pregnancy, when really the focus should be on Palin's inexperience and horrifying lack of knowledge on important foreign and domestic policy issues.

    Re: Politics!

The focus should be on John McCain's extraordinary lack of attention to detail. All of this could have been unearthed -and avoided - if he had spent more than one day vetting Palin. One day!

This is the same kind of gut decision making that made Iraq such a disaster.

The sooner everybody leaves Palin's daughter alone, the better for everyone involved. She's fucking 17! Hell, I almost got pregnant once in high school, and I don't even have a vagina. Also, if the Democrats start harping on it, its going to alienate alot of people. Besides, what's the point? Bringing her down should be like shooting children in playpen.

And yes, I do recognize that the Republicans would be all over that girl like a dog on a Dreamsicle if the roles were reversed. But they're fuckers.

Speaking of politics, I will be blogging bi-monthly as Pop-Rock Candy Mountain's political pundit in a column called The Registered Independent. My first article (it will be about election fraud) will be published Monday, Sept 8th.

    For now, they've started with a Q&A

Have the Democrats been harping on it? Or have bloggers and the media? I honestly don't know the source of all this stuff about Palin's family, but everything I've heard from Obama and his campaign since the convention has been the same as before the convention. Its doesn't seem to be coming from Obama, his campaign or the DNC.

When someone, anyone, is nominated for a major public office they get vetted not just by the opposition party but by the media and public at large. That process is going to happen either way. Since no one knows anything about this lady except her family situation and that she cleared out some corrupt Republicans, thats all there is to talk about.

It's a large and powerful group (remember the box office for "Last Passion of Christ"?) and if they come out strong for McCain, it could be '04 all over again. The only counter is energizing young voters who lean left, which (unlike Gore and Kerry) Barack Obama actually has a good shot of doing, because he's young, charismatic and inspiring. But I'm still holding out hope that McCain himself will turn off Republicans with his positions (who cares what Palin thinks if McCain is or has been against drilling and overturning Roe v. Wade?) and his erratic behavior (i.e. choosing Palin) and enough of the base will stay home to make this a landslide.
If this doesn't mobilize Democrats, nothing will.

There's a picture of Bristol (Palin's pregnant daughter) on the front of CNN.com right now, and she looks nothing like anyone in those pictures.

Thats a good point, but thats why I said the democrats best not "start" harping on the daughter. There is media interest in the story that it out of the Democrats control, and that could eventually come back to hurt them.

Also, like you, I'm not really sure where the stories are coming from, but I'm guessing its a combination of public interest (fueling bloggers and the media), and democratic "strategy." For example, pro-democratic webpages ... which is to say that its my sense that the democrats aren't precisely shying away from this story. But thats more of a feeling than a definitive statement. Either way, they best keep their mind on politics.

I work at an NBC affiliate, and we get comments at the end of every day emailed to us from the receptionist.

Several people called or emailed to say that we shouldn't be talking about the daughter being pregnant. I'm sure these same people were appalled that anyone made a big deal of Clinton getting a blow job.

At the very least, it's a sign that the run of the mill Republicans are nervous about this.

I don't know, I almost take that to mean that the conservatives are being mobilized by the Palin's underage pregnancy scandal and are taking up her cause.

Yeah, but there also seems to be real desperation in the way people are defending Palin. I have trouble believing that anyone is eager for her to have to be the one to step in if something happens to the President.

Also, here are some very interesting comments from the person Palin laughed about on that morning show.

Yeah that's true also. I am starting to think that the Republicans are really just running scared at this point. But if they manage to make Palin their martyr, I can see small town America rallying around Miss Wasilla.
