Thread: Politics!

    Re: Politics!

I wonder if over a year of anti-government propaganda and conservatives embracing ideas that were once considered fringe is going to result in a lot more cases like the one in Austin and this one.

Hey, look at me! Now I'm posting Ezra Klein articles:

Obama promises to pursue a public option later

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if the right tries to use the Pentagon guy to try and portray all pro-pot activists as crazy, acorn-funded lefty terrorists that Obama trained himself to eventually storm the churches and set up socialized wealth re-distribution centers.

Also, anyone who doesn't think that race is still a huge deal in this country, ask yourself how apeshit crazy everyone would be going right now if either one of these guys had been an American named Abdul.

Speaking of Acorn, y'all know those pimp videos were heavily doctored and essentially fake, right?

I should say, I don't really know that shooter's ideology or even whether or not it can easily fit into the typical right-left paradigm. But I do think that many prominent figures in what is supposed to be a legitimate party espousing the idea that government has become evil in the same way that the colonists believed the British government was evil is going to motivate radical and paranoid people into taking violent action.

I think in both cases the politics of the loonies are more complex than left-right. That's because what really fires them up probably has more to do with libertarianism than the liberal/conservative spectrum. I don't mean to imply that libertarianism is a ticket to crazytown, but I do mean to suggest that the current hysteria over Obama's "tyranny" is more likely to drive a strict libertarian over the edge than a person who wants the government in place to keep Guantanamo open and restrict abortion rights.

This is kind of interesting to me in part because of Jenny's argument about Holder and Chiquita:

    Cool Chart!

The biggest victims of these subsidies are the working poor. When people on a limited budget have to make choices in the supermarket, they are going to try to buy foods that have the most bang for their buck. Unfortunately, that would be artificially cheap and unhealthy processed foods.

So everyone knows that politics isn't cool, but for once in your lazy, apathetic lives, call your congressional office and tell them that you want them to support healthcare. It would take five minutes.

I kind of have a dual residency going on, but I have a feeling Chris Van Hollen, Babs Mikulski, Paul Sarbanes, Mike Quigley, Dick Durbin, and Roland Burris are all safe "Yes" votes.

Still helps when they look at the numbers and see how many calls they got regarding the issue.

being from Israel- I just wonder how that whole Joe Biden incident is perceived in the US.

here the media diverted the discussion from the real issue (that Israel is building in the settlements) to whether or not Biden was insulted, and should he be offended or not
