Penguins definitely played better in that game. Rematch next year?

If by rematch you mean Rangers/Canucks, then yes.

shut up, scammy. next year is OUR YEAR!
"This is not the Beach Boys. It can't be. Why? No beach songs! I thought it was some kind of joke. All 'Pet Sounds' offers is the opportunity to hear Brian Wilson whine for forty minutes, backed by elevator music. There's barely any Mike Love on the album at all."

Question I Pose To Be A Jerk To The Laker Fans (And You Can Take It, Your Team Just Won The Championship): Does Chris Wallace get a ring?

Also, how awesome was Jackson's hat? The only way it could've been better is if the back said "FUCK RED."

Not since Pau Gasol was downgraded on this board to a non-All Star, Toni Kucoc class of player.

Maybe a better question would have been, Who were those two fat fuckers who accepted the trophy for the Lakers?

Ugh, those Buss kids... So embarrassing. Where was Jerry? Or Jeanie for that matter? At least send the retard he lets be assistant GM... (Jim?)

By the way, Phil's kids made him that hat. They're proud of their father. I thought it was sweet.

The Lakers win did nothing to make up for the Red Wings loss. My time in the NBA wilderness (also, rape charges and a "game face" that looks like an angry mole rat) has dulled my enthusiasm for the Lakers.

I think it can be argued that Kobe Bryant has gained the least from winning another championship (apart from personal stats) than almost any athlete ever. I don't think he won over any new fans, or even made anyone think, "I'll buy any product he endorses". Much like A-Rod, he's just a really unlikeable guy. The 'anti-Barkley' if you will. He'll continue to get respect, I guess, but no one is ever going to utter the words, "I'm not a Laker fan, but I really like Kobe Bryant".

Something interesting that was pointed out a little while back. Does Kobe have any friends? When was the last time they cut to 'Kobe's boy from high school' (even if it was some Italian dude) or really anyone that would lead me to believe that his personal life doesn't just consist of practice and telling his wife to shut up so he can watch game film?

And that C.H.U.D. face? Just awful.

Joey Buss accepting the Larry O'Brien trophy was more uncomfortable than the time Marlon Brando sent Sacheen Littlefeather to pick up his Oscar.

I think Kobe gained a ton from this championship, in a strictly basketball sense (despite developing the single most contrived game face in sports history). By winning his first championship as the top banana, he jumps into the top 10-15 players ever. No question he is probably the least adored player on that list, ever.

Kobe is a pantheon player, Pau is a legitimate all-star. If anything, the finals proved Kobe's ability to work within a team structure (despite him gagging all over himself in the final seconds of game two). If anything, having a slightly down finals will help his legacy in the long run.

That all being said, I would argue that this is the worst team to win a championship in this decade. They could have a playoff with the 99 Spurs and the 95 Rockets for worst championship team of the last 25 years. If Garnett stays healthy, the Lakers have about a 3% chance of winning the finals. Just my opinion.

They beat the teams they had to beat. Its not their fault contenders fell by the wayside.

    Re: Sporots

    This might belong in the 'dick moves' thread, but it's also sporots related;

Last night, during the 4th quarter, I was in a bar where a girl came up to a group of us (who were sitting at the bar where all the televisions in this place are) and asked if, once the game ended, everyone would not give away who won (i.e. saying 'Yay Lakers' and such) because her boyfriend was playing pool and tivo-ing the game (Not competitive pool or anything either. Just casual pool with his girlfriend).

    AND SHE WAS SERIOUS.

What kind of church bell-sized balls do you have to be swingin' to not only want this done, but to ask your GIRLFRIEND to go do it for you?

If you're at work, and it's important work, I gots no problem when you plug your ears and go 'la la la'. Not everyone gets to choose their work hours, and it sucks when you can't experience the game as it happens, but dude, you're PLAYING CASUAL POOL AT A BAR. Are you fucking serious?

Anywhere else in the world that's not San Francisco, this kind of behavior gets you hit in the back of the head with a pint glass, no?

So now what happens? Things don't shift to, ugh, baseball?

NBA offseason? Do Odom and Ariza stay on the Lakers? I think there will be TONS of teams going after Ariza, I hope the Cavs make a run at him. Who couldn't use a long, defensive swingman? Dude is getting paid this summer.

I think Turk stays in Orlando, they'll dip into the luxury tax to keep him if they need to.

I don't think Shaq to Cleveland is a good idea at all. How about making a run at Bosh? Maybe Toronto thinks that they won't be able to re-sign him in 2010 anyway, so why not blow up the team now.

Other free agents that'll probably get more than their worth due to good postseason efforts: Birdman, Gortat, Ben Gordon.

Other big names out there: TruWarrior91, Boozer (maybe), Iverson, Rasheed Wallace, Kidd, Marbury (kidding), Devin Harris, Andre Miller, Marion.

I don't think the '99 Spurs were that bad. Elliot, Duncan and Robinson is a pretty strong front court.

I think Bosh is for sure leaving town, unless BC pulls some kind of miracle out of his ass and we win 50+ games. I'm... I'm sorry James...
