Thread: Tommy Wiseau's The Room

    Re: Tommy Wiseau's The Room

A Canon Rebel XT. I used a 10-22mm lens for the wide shot of the line, and a 28mm for the rest of the shots in the dark.

Yeah, lots of people dressed up like him, but there about 5 people dressed like clowns with shirts that said NO on them.

I figured there would be an explanation for it from the movie, but that never came up.

I can't think of what the clowns would be referring to, maybe it's their own in-joke.

Man, that bobble head is just what I've needed to woo the object of my desires.

Can we get David Wain to play the psychiatrist in The Room remake? (I don't know who "we" is.)

Well for the first half. Not the second half when the actor that looks like Wain was replaced with no explanation.

Then his interest in the role would wain.

    Well, wain in Rome...
Night gathers, and now my snark begins. It shall not end until it gets hacky. I shall take my wife(... please!), hold no lands, father no negative ratings. I shall wear no crowns and win no AST Top 20 Rankings. I shall live and die by my posts. I am the LOL in the darkness. I am the fire that burns against the trolls, the sneer that guards the realms of men from Kyle Cease's Comedy Boot Camp. I pledge my life and honor to the AST's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.

Whoa, this is still being shown? I saw it in 2007 with maybe 20 other people... it definitely wasn't a packed theater. That's great. Everyone should see it there once.

    Re: Tommy Wiseau's The Room

Q: What does Tommy Wiseau say when he remembers the sport played by tossing a ball with curved hand-held baskets?

    A: Oh, Jai Alai!

    Re: Tommy Wiseau's The Room

    HA!

So what is the consensus on Mr. Wiseau? Is he in on the joke? Does he really think he's a great important filmmaker? Is this whole schtick something he is taking to the grave? Is his re-imagining of The Room (meaning in his imagination) as a Dark Comedy JUST a way to cope with the awfulness and make $$ on the cult status or is it something else?

    I need answers.

    Re: Tommy Wiseau's The Room

Im pretty sure, he wholeheartedly intended this to be the epic drama of the decade. When it wasn't, and turned into this whole laughing stock, he embraced the movie for what it is... an enjoyable mess.

Even though it sells out 5 screens here in LA, he's not making much at $7 a ticket, so he must suck it up for the attention. I mean, how can you not love thousands of people cheering and rooting for you (even if it's for the wrong reasons)? It's why he shows up to every month, taking the time to introduce the film and take a quick Q&A from a crowd of jackasses dressed like him.

    Re: Tommy Wiseau's The Room

I think you're right; he decided to embrace the awfulness, but he still is in "character" (if that's the right word) whenever he talks about the Symbolism and the fact that everyone has a Lisa, Johnny, Mark and Denny (!) in their lives. And the football symbolizes brotherhood and the red dress is Valentine's Day because quote: "I don't know if you know this, but many people in Hollywood and also regular ladies wear the red dress."

It's either very esoteric or completely whack-a-doodle.

    Re: Tommy Wiseau's The Room

I have spent some time talking to Mr. Wiseau and there is no character there.

He gets a little more chatty and show-bizzy when he's introducing the films, but he has not created a "character". He's a super nice guy, but his mind is all over the place.

    Re: Tommy Wiseau's The Room

But when you talk to him don't you have to "go along" with the whole thing and act like he is amazing so that he will answer your questions? It's like talking to a Ren Faire person who insists he is the leather mugmaker and not an accountant. I don't think I could fake that... he must know he's a joke.
