Where The Wild Things Are movie (Spike Jonze dir.)

Alright, sorry to preempt Brasky, but I think this completely merits its own thread by now, if other's on this board are as excited for this as I am.

    Poster:

A whole slew of movie stills and production photos were posted to the USA Today website (of all places) here.

Moriarty interviews Spike Jonze for Aint It Cool News.

The bit of test footage posted to YouTube a while ago:

Trailer to accompany Monsters vs. Aliens (and come to the internet soon after).

In general, this looks incredible. Jonze is the perfect fit for this, it looks like he gets the tone just right.
Night gathers, and now my snark begins. It shall not end until it gets hacky. I shall take my wife(... please!), hold no lands, father no negative ratings. I shall wear no crowns and win no AST Top 20 Rankings. I shall live and die by my posts. I am the LOL in the darkness. I am the fire that burns against the trolls, the sneer that guards the realms of men from Kyle Cease's Comedy Boot Camp. I pledge my life and honor to the AST's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.

I am secure enough in my manhood to admit that I teared up watching that.

Yeah, I don't like the odds of me walking out of the theater not crying like a big baby when the trailer put a lump in my throat.

I had the same reaction as you guys.

I can't wait for this. Now I'm going to watch it in stunning HD and cry super tears.

    Wow.

    I mean, just, wow.

Is there anything negative to say about this?? I've been checking everywhere, can't find anything negative! If even the internet can't find anything to hate about it, then clearly this has to be the perfect movie!

(Either that or it won't be able to meet our impossibly high expectations)

////Debbie Downer. Gonna watch this for the dozenth time.

I love that test footage. The way he talks to the little kid reminds me so much of Coach McGuirk/Brendan interactions on Home Movies. "Yeah, sure... robots are the best... robots are the best." I know Spike Jonze said this footage was drastically different from what the actual movie will be like, but hopefully they'll keep the same vibe.

Whew, thank God for message boards. Now I know it's ok that the trailer made me cry. I'll probably have to see the movie in another town. Not that I'm afraid to cry in public, but I'm afraid I might make an actual scene.

I'll eighth the praise for that trailer. Looks like a win.

That was so good it made me suspicious. Can't wait.

What version of "Wake Up" is that? I don't think it's the one on the album.

what's all the hype? I will be the first cold hearted bastard to say unaffected. I do think its great that you can add an acoustic guitar to a montage and people sweel with emotion. Good luck filling 2 hours with 30 pages of material.

Is that really what you want your first post on this site to be, reinekm?

Wasn't this thing supposed to have been scrapped and reshot? I googled around, but I could only find people talking about the possible reshoots and no articles saying how they resolved it.

There were reports it was traumatizing the children at test screenings. Much of it seemed to stem from the fact that the CGI characters were somewhat creepy and expressionless. I think with the extra time, they were able to bring more life to the faces. They might have also recut some of the scarier scenes.

Right, because they bypassed a screenplay and just used the original book as the script.

    What a fool, this guy.

I'm in the "the trailer almost made me cry" club.

    This should be great.

I heard they were releasing two movies: the original, faithful cut, and then a tamer, more kid-friendly version called "Where the Wild Things Aren't." It's more of a travel documentary showing all the places you can go if you'd like to avoid giant monsters.
