The 11th Annual Del Close Marathon - August 14-16, 2009

The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre is proud to announce the dates for the 11th Annual Del Close Marathon!

This year's marathon will be the weekend of August 14-16, and will take place on multiple stages. We'll also have awesome special shows during the week leading up to the marathon (August 10-13). And all week long we'll be offering special workshops. Details TBA.

If you'd like to submit your group to be a part of the DCM, please see our submission guidelines and complete an application at http://www.delclosemarathon.com.

Also - again this year we're looking for more out-of-town groups to submit late-night shows - shows like last year's Cosbyprov!, St. Patrick's Wake, Everyone Get In Here!, etc. If you have a great idea for a late-night improv show you want to do - submit it and make a note in the submission that you're submitting it for a late-night slot!

And remember - if you'd like your show to be considered for a primetime slot, and we do not already know you or your show, you should send us a DVD or videotape of the show.

The deadline for submission is May 4.

Don't know how recently it was announced, but here's the schedule:

I'm very excited. This year I'm going to try and find a way to schedule sleep at some point, though.

When is everyone playing? Midnight Society from Austin, TX is playing the Hudson Guild, Friday night at 9PM.

I'm looking forward to seeing Death By Roo Roo again, and Mantziggle sounds awesome.

You can buy a pass when it gets closer to the marathon. They're $25 and they get you into almost every show. You have to pay separately to get into the all star shows at the FIT, those usually aren't that much fun anyway.

Re: The 11th Annual Del Close Marathon - August 14-16, 2009

I'm confused, the Del Close Marathon site shows some shows, The Benson Interruption(12:30am Sunday) and The Upright Citizens Brigade(6:00pm Sat.) and some others as being at UCBTLA, but Doug just posted that there will be a Benson Interruption in New York in August(Which may or may not be part of Del Close Marathon) and Matt Besser posted a blog on myspace saying that he'll be in New York doing shows for the Marathon.

So I guess I'm just wondering if the locations for some of the shows are wrong and if anyone has any info on it, because I plan on going to some if they're in LA, but don't think I'm gonna be able to make it out to the New York ones.

When it says LA on the schedule, that just means the performers are from LA. The entire marathon is in New York.

Ahh, that makes sense, now I feel like an idiot. I'm new to the Del Close Marathon. I wish I could attend. Maybe next year I will plan ahead. Thanks.

Re: The 11th Annual Del Close Marathon - August 14-16, 2009

okay, this is coming up next week - we have our plane tickets, our tickets to the special show and our schedule for what we want to see. All of the shows we are going to see happen overnight and so we have a sleep schedule of about 7 hours during the day. Now, help me out here - where's a good place to sleep?? We thought about doing a hotel in Jersey or something (because they are way cheaper) but that would cut about 2 hours of our sleep time out. Any thoughts? Hostels are fine, but I've never stayed in one so I'm not sure what's a good safe, clean one to look for.

Re: The 11th Annual Del Close Marathon - August 14-16, 2009

We stayed here last year:

http://www.spothostels.com/chelsea.html

It was decent for a hostel, and only a 5-10 minute walk to UCB and the other theaters. They have some private rooms, but I'm not sure how the price compares to actual hotels. I stayed in a room with about 5 other people and paid something like $40 per night. Somebody stole something out of my friends bag (I forget what), but that has more to do with the riff raff that stay at hostels than the hostel itself.

This year, we're renting an apartment we found at http://airbnb.com. You might be able to find a good deal there.

My last DCM was in 2007, we rented a hotel in Chelsea. next time, I plan to stay here: http://www.ahl-tutucenter.com/. Great reviews on Tripadvisor, and fairly cheap. Commuting in is a bad idea. You'll get exhausted, fast.

Turns out that plan fell through, so I'm in for another year of delirious exhaustion.
