Hey guys, I wanted to see if we had any or some readers from Iowa here. I live around Ames and will be reporting on upcoming comedy events for the 515 for anyone who is interested. We have the famous Billy Joes Pitcher Show open mic tomorrow night at 7pm. Come check it out!

I go to Grinnell College, and I'm going to be putting together a semi-semesterly open mic either on campus or at one of the coffee shops in town. More later...
I'm in Sioux City, but nothing ever seems to happen here. We do go to a lotta shows at the Omaha Funny Bone and occasionally the Des Moines funny bone if the money's right. Jeff Dunham played two consecutive sold out shows one weekend this past spring which a bunch of my students told me was totally hilarious. Yea.

Don't forget that Nick Thune will be at the Funny Bone in West Des Monies this week and Henry Rollins will be doing a free show on Sept 18th in Ames at the University. Its free. FREE!
punkdc have you been the new open mic night at the liars club on mondays? i havent been yet but have been meaning to check it out. how do you get tickets to the rollins show?
Rollins show is totally free. Just show up. I didn't know about the open mic at the liars club. I'll have to get some more info about that

Hey Dr. Feelgood, I recommend doing an open mic on-campus AND at a local coffee shop. See if you can build up an audience for it! And try to advertise in Des Moines, there are a good number of comics there. Go to myspace.com/gregalthoff and let him know, he runs the Billy Joe's Pitcher Show open mic.

This is some incredibly sad news. Billy Joe's Pitcher Show, the only place in Iowa to consistently perform and see local open mic comedy in Des Moines over the past 4 years (and several prior to that), is closing its doors at the First of February if nobody purchases the place. The smoking ban, which I considered idiotic from the first time I ever heard of it, has now taken one of its most substantial victims in Iowa. The relationship between the comics performing at Billy's and the venue itself has been one that benefited both sides, and the friendship and community that formed between the regular comics is a unique and special one that wouldn't have happened if we had not all began doing comedy in Chicago or some other city where competition overrules camaraderie.

Please make it out to as many as you can. I promise there will be somewhere else in the near future that Des Moines comics will be able to be seen regularly, and hopefully over time we can build it up to be as special as Billy's. But that'll be a pretty Herculean task.
