Thread: Oklahoma Comedy

    Re: Oklahoma Comedy

I accept, the Opolis hosted Comedy Night Friday, and laughs were in no short supply. The audience chuckled and snorted along through the two-hour show that featured eight local comedians, all of whom showcased his or her own distinctive brand of humor.

    Re: Oklahoma Comedy

I just attended the open mic at the Tulsa Loony Bin and signed up to perform next wednesday. This will be my first open mic. The club was a lot nicer than I expected. There was nice PA and way fewer cowboy hats than I was expecting. I live in NWA, northwest Arkansas, so this is a little bit of a drive for me but also the only thing I have found that is close for me.

Just found out I'll be spending spring break in your fine state. Super excited and hoping to hang out at some of the open mics. Also any suggestions on things to do? I'll be staying in Woodward but should be spending some time in the city.

    Re: Oklahoma Comedy

I'll be at the Looney bin in OKC in April, Cameron. I've never been there. How are the crowds? Are they pretty cool? Hopefully we can hang out and get a beer or something when I'm there. I'd love to see some of the local scene and do some non-club sets ater my shows if you can point me in the right direction. Thanks!

    Re: Oklahoma Comedy

The Loony Bin is cheeseball comedy club from 1981 to the max... I can only really speak for the Wednesday open mic nights as far as the crowds go---it's actually a fairly decent turnout for an open mic.

Got it. Write jokes about Stevie Nicks, Billy Squier, and the Who's Kenny Jones period. Perform them in a 3 quarter sleeve ringer shirt with an iron on of the Steve Garvey Dodgers, and a "Ponch" wig. Cue the standing ovation.

    Re: Oklahoma Comedy

I think to call the Loony Bins "cheeseball" is a bit unfair. They are a bit dated and they definitely skew working class, but they bring some great comics to the area and draw consistently good crowds.

And John, definitely would like to get a beer while you are here. Not for sure, but I'm due to emcee there again soon so perhaps I'll get your week. As far as non club sets go, the only real option would be a place called Othello's in Norman on Tuesday nights (if you get in town that early). The only other shows tend to compete directly with the Loony Bin.

    Re: Oklahoma Comedy

Jeff Kreisler did a killer set in Tahlequah, OK, location of the one-time home office of Late Night with David Letterman, last week. Is there a Kreisler thread on here anywhere? I've been gone awhile. And I'm too lazy to look.

    Re: Oklahoma Comedy

I'm kinda new to comedy here in oklahoma and am looking for a place in the OKC or Norman area that does open mic. I'm not from oklahoma so I'm not use to the area yet and not sure where to look. My act is not really adult themed but can go in that direction from time to time depending on where I am performing and what material I come up with that week. But I also like to get people thinking a bit while they laugh. Everything I say on stage is based off of real life and is funny cause most of it is true. If anyone has some idea where I can go share my talents, please let me know.

    Re: Oklahoma Comedy

Othello's in Norman (on Campus Corner) has a comedy open mic on Tuesday nights. Sign up at 9:15, show at 10:00.

The Loony Bin Comedy Club in NW OKC does a Wednesday night open mic. Sign up at 6:45 show at 8.

And there is a new comedy open mic at Filter's Coffee Shop in OKC on Mondays. Sign up at 7.

That's pretty much it as far as strickly comedy open mics go.
