Fuck...yes! David Cross, one of the best in the business and world. I was lucky enough to be there when he dropped in last year and did I Love Movies and CDR and I'm insanely stoked that I'll get to see him again this time.

A friend and I will be in the standby line, so if anyone ends up having someone in their party drop out, I'll be the eager guy in striped hooded shirt.

I don't have a lot of comps tonight, so there should be plenty of standby room. I think people will want to have seen this show.

Also, stay for CDR Sketch tonight! I know what some of the people have planned and it sounds pretty cool.

Wow...Cross and Galifianakis on the same show....killer.

Kirkman was amazing...the show was going towards the wall and she really pulled it back...super sharp...she gets better everytime i see her.

Nick Kroll's "do I date you?" guy was awesome.

but really Cross and Zach on the same show....I love you CDR!

    Great CDR...

But I came here to say that anyone that hasn't been to CDR Sketch is really missing out. It's worth coming just for the weekly Paul-Neil scene. And The Birthday Boys blow my mind. Tonight's sketch had me in tears.

So how was David and Zach's sets? I wasn't able to make it past the wait list (I learned you need to get there EXTRA early, which I did not). I saw Zach valeting his car on the sad walk away and knew I was really missing out on something great.

That Birthday Boys sketch made my stomach muscles (abs?) tighten as I was laughing, it was weird. I guess there's no harder way to laugh. I was thinking about it for like an hour after, just laughing my ass off til no end.

"my wife hates when I call her my roommate..."
    our bearded host, nick thune.

"I'm right brained.. or left. Whatever side that wants to eat a woman's asshole."
    jason gillearn

Glenn Wool talked about being an alcoholic and his tales as drunk glenn and sober glenn. it was pretty fucking hilarious... of course I can't remember any of it.

"... no disrespect to your man. Hey man, whatchu wearing? are those khakis?"
Jon Daly and Nick Kroll as the Ed Hardy wearing douchebags. I heard some of this at hammer monkey tight a while back so it was awesome to see the character in context. Complete with large diamond stud earring and bottle of Ciroc.

    a quick drop-in by zach!

"fool me once, shame on you ... fool me 9 TIMES?! WHAT DID I DO TO YOU? seriously? ... 10 times?"
david cross does an extended set.

jen kirkman was also there last night, but my lens malfunctioned, so nothing really came out.

Re: CDRs: David Cross / Jen Kirkman / Nick Kroll / Rob Schrab

This was my first CDR, and it was really great. As an out-of-towner, I always love reading CDR recaps, so I'll do my best to cover this one.

Nick Thune came out as host, commenting on the backstage buzz of this show and how he'll act as the Queen Bee of that buzz. One of Thune's one-liners from the night: "We just found out my grandfather's hearing has AIDS."

Next up was Jason Gillearn, who mixed a low energy delivery with a quasi-absurdist sensibility. It was kind of a slow start, but I think the audience was won over in time.

Then, Jen Kirkman came out and destroyed. I like Kirkman a lot, and I have her album, but she really blew me away. She covered a lot of subjects, but the highlight was the description of her problems with masturbation. Whereas guys can just go for it without much thought, she (and presumably other women) needs a full story with a beginning, a middle, and end, as well as some sort of logic. She can't just think of Johnny Depp's image... just his floating head? And why's he there? Doesn't he have a family? Is his wife OK with it?

Glenn Wool was up next and seemed to be channeling Bobcat Goldthwait in his set. He talked about the difference between Drunk Glenn and Sober Glenn. Drunk Glenn gets laid, Sober Glenn is "choosy." However, only Drunk Glenn will call Cocaine Glenn.

Nick Kroll did the next set, and I can't remember his character's name but HOLY SHIT. He was playing an Ed Hardy-wearing, Gotti brat-inspired asshole, and it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. He'd drop phrases like "no disrespect" and "like...um..." while saying things like "Do you sing? Because you look like you have a beautiful voice. Sing for me. You know, I'm a music producer. I also clean pools." God, it was hilarious. Then to put icing on the cake, a similarly-dressed Jon Daly came in adamantly claiming not to know Nick, but just to give back his platinum card that he left in the VIP room. Shit was bottle service.

Zach Galifianakis then did a surprise set, which was delightful. He proposed an ad for dairy based on a recent Oscar film: "I'm Chocolate Milk! And I'm here to hydrate you!" The set was a little short and it included a lot of silliness, including a joke that Zach hesitated to say at first, and I don't know if I can do it justice... but let's just say it culminated in there being a military officer named Major Dump.

David Cross ended the night with an extended set. He struggled to push the mic stand down, which then caused him to fall over, which was funnier than it had any right to be. In a bit reminiscent of the "effortless scissors" piece from It's Not Funny, David explained the frivolous invention of the Time Mug, the mug that tells time. Finally! He then went on to mock the ads, which claim that the Time Mug is great for businessmen who don't want to waste time looking at their watches. Somehow, the set ended with the "Fool me once..." maxim, which David then extrapolated into whose fault (me vs. you) it is after each time you get fooled.

I stuck around for CDR sketch as well, which was a lot of fun.

Jon Daly came out as Sappity Tappity, the thespian tree. He went through his storied acting career, recounting stories. He "played the fool with Peter O'Toole" and I'm paraphrasing here... "stood in a corner with Malcolm Jamal Warner." Gwyneth Paltrow implored him to make love to her, even though he's asexual. He complied, but it was uncomfortable for her and boring for him.

Chris Kula played a voice-over actor who was annoying his employer because he couldn't do a voice-over spot for a local business' commercial without also doing a black voice. Eventually, he was coached to try and do a white person's voice... which sounded exactly like Barack Obama. This might be the best Obama impression I've ever heard. Amazing.

Rob Schrab and Ben Schwartz delivered the "world's greatest joke" in a classic two-man style. Ben would tell most of the story and when called upon, Rob would say the lines of the man in the joke. However when Ben had to take a phone call (which was heated, intense, vulgar, and loud) Rob would continue to pipe up with his "lines" with no context from Ben. Then, Ben came back and they finished the joke as though nothing had happened! Hooray!

Then, the Birthday Boys. Knocked my dick off. They performed the Whipped Cream Shuffle, which involved them squirting whipped cream in each other's pants while chanting "You put cream in my pants, I put cream in yours." This continued until a man dressed as a ship captain entered, explaining that the theater hit an iceberg and was taking water. They were going down and only the women and children were being evacuated. Depressed, the boys began to exit, when one remained and continued the Whipped Cream Shuffle with honor. Then they all came back, and continued the shuffle with a sense of pride until they all drowned. Then a guy dressed like an iceberg-Urkel hybrid came out and said "Did I do that?" I laughed 'til I cried.

It was a great CDR and a wonderful CDR Sketch! Thanks all!
